How to help lawyers The Atlanta Bar Association offers these suggestions for helping lawyers and their families affected by this tragedy. 1. Offer your home to anyone displaced and with no place to go. 2. Offer your office as a place for them to work. 3. Offer your office as a “drop box” for mail or e-mail that you can hold or forward to them. 4. Offer to make a donation in their name to an appropriate relief agency such as the Salvation Army or Red Cross (either send donations directly to the agency (Salvation Army at www.redshield.org/crisis/ or Red Cross at www.redcross.org). 5. Offer to assist them in contacting courts or clients. 6. Offer to cover hearings, depositions or prepare emergency pleadings on their behalf 7. Offer to contact their local counsel or opposing counsel to get extensions of time on answers or other deadlines.
