Wills for Heroes clinics kick off bar year

The TBA YLD is launching the new bar year with four Wills for Heroes clinics over the next few weeks. On July 31, a clinic for first responders will be held in Knoxville, and volunteers are still needed. Shifts are available from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 12:30 to 4 p.m. Witnesses and notaries are also needed so please invite legal secretaries and paralegals to join the effort. The daylong event will be held at the Knoxville Police Department Safety Building, 800 Howard Baker Jr. Ave. To volunteer, contact Mike Baisley at (865) 292-2307 or mbaisley@hdclaw.com and indicate which shift you prefer and how best to contact you (telephone and e-mail).

Wills for Heroes -- which provides free wills and other basic estate planning documents for first responders and their families -- has been a signature public service project of the TBA YLD for the last two years. To date, more than 700 first responders have been served throughout the state and more than 300 lawyers have participated. The YLD plans to continue its efforts with events throughout the state during the 2010-2011 bar year. In August, clinics will be held in Jackson (Aug. 7), Memphis (Aug. 21) and Paris (Aug. 28). Watch for more details and other upcoming events on the YLD's online e-calendar.
