4ALL service projects on tap for Saturday
Don't forget to get out this Saturday, April 4, and participate in the TBA's 4ALL Campaign Pro Bono Public Service Day going on across the state. With more than 45 projects, there is sure to be one close to you! The 4ALL Campaign is a statewide effort to address the problem of the denial of access to justice caused by poverty, domestic violence, our deteriorating economy and the ever-increasing cost of legal services. Attorneys across Tennessee are donating their time and talents on Saturday to bring access to justice to those in need. A number of projects have been organized by young lawyers. Find a service project in your area. To learn more about the 4ALL campaign, track results from the public service day and see photos from events visit the 4ALL Media page

Two specific events in Memphis still need participants. On Friday, the Memphis Bar YLD takes the lead on a call-in program live on WREG Channel 3 TV from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Those interested in helping may email Edd Peyton at peytone@thomasonlaw.com. On Saturday, a 5k run/walk to benefit Memphis Area Legal Services begins at 10 a.m. For more information contact Omar Malik at omalik@memphis.edu or register online

2009 Mock Trial Competition a success
Competition Results -- White Station High School of Memphis claimed the state mock trial title March 14, defeating Battle Ground Academy of Franklin in the 29th annual Tennessee State High School Mock Trial Competition. It was White Station's first bid to state in six years and the school showed up in force, fielding two teams. The green team won the championship, while the gray team placed sixth out of 18 teams. The school will now represent Tennessee at the national mock trial competition in Atlanta May 6-10.

Recognition of Volunteers -- The TBA YLD Mock Trial Committee wants to say "thank you" to some 200 volunteers, including judges, lawyers, law students and paralegals, who gave their expertise and time to the State High School Mock Trial Competition March 13-14 in Nashville. This year, the competition was fortunate to have enough participation from the bench to place sitting judges in nine courtrooms for all four preliminary trial rounds. Tennessee Supreme Court Justice Sharon Lee, the court's newest justice, presided over the championship match Saturday evening. Thanks to all those who volunteered their time!
