Law school visits continue this week

The TBA YLD kicked off its annual campus visits this month with a visit to the University of Memphis last week. The outreach effort continued this week with visits to the Nashville School of Law and Vanderbilt University Law School. See photos from the Memphis, Nashville School of Law and Vanderbilt events. Thank you to all the lawyers who turned out to network with the students! In November, the team will visit the two law schools in Knoxville. Make plans to join us! Here are the details:

Project SALUTE returns to Nashville

Project SALUTE is a unique pro bono project pioneered by the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. The program provides free legal assistance to low-income veterans who have been denied disability and pension benefit claims. Last year, several Tennessee young lawyers completed the necessary training and staffed a legal clinic sponsored by Project SALUTE in Chattanooga. The project is returning to Tennessee Oct. 16-17 as part of Operation Stand Down's 17th annual outreach to homeless veterans. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and will be held at the Tennessee State Guard Facility (1164 Foster Avenue, Nashville, TN 37210). Lawyers interested in volunteering for the event should contact Alesa Silver at silverag@udmercy.edu or (313) 596-0258.

For those interested in learning more about handling federal veteran cases, Project SALUTE is hosting a free CLE webinar on Oct. 29 and 30. In exchange for the free training, materials and CLE credit, attorneys agree to handle at least one veterans' case on a pro bono basis.
