2008 Statewide Public Service Day
Sponsored by the TBA Young Lawyers Division

Each year in conjunction with Law Day, lawyers across the state participate in projects designed to serve the public. Many of this year's projects reflect the TBA Young Lawyers Division's commitment to CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Following is a list of each district's public service project for this year. Please contact the district representative in your area for more details and information about participating in these events.

District 1

Co-hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser for CASA of Northeast Tennessee on May 3.

District 2

Hosting two events: (1) the second annual "Arts in the Garden" -- a fundraiser and open house event to benefit Safe Harbor, a Sevier County child advocacy center and (2) an event to benefit the Children's Center of the Cumberlands.

District 3

Working with the Imagination Library program to expand its coverage in low income areas by sponsoring a volunteer sign-up day -- tentatively set for May 3 -- at an area business.

District 4

NEW DATE ANNOUNCED! Hosting a golf tournament on July 18 beginning at 1 p.m. at Moccasin Bend to benefit the Orange Grove Center, a private non-profit organization serving adults and children with developmental disabilities. The entry fee is $70 per person or $250 for a team, which includes greens fees, food and drinks.

District 6

Contributing sweat equity to a Wilson County Habitat for Humanity building project on May 3 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also planning the Third Annual Attorneys v. Doctors softball game.

Organizing a clean-up day on May 1 at 8:30 a.m. at Target House, a residential facility for St. Jude patients, for patients and their families. Volunteers will disinfect toys and common areas to make the space safe for children.
