2010 Statewide Public Service Projects
Sponsored by the TBA Young Lawyers Division

Each year in conjunction with Law Day, young lawyers across the state plan and participate in projects designed to serve the public or non-profit organizations. Following is a list of each district's public service project for this year. Please contact the district representative in your area for more details and information about participating in these events. (Current as of April 21, 2010)



District 1

Event: "Helping Kids, Fighting Abuse" Breakfast & Fundraiser for ChildHelp

Additional Information: The first annual "Helping Kids, Fighting Abuse" breakfast educated the public about the role Childhelp plays in child abuse cases and in helping to find families for children placed in Childhelp's foster care program. Speakers at the event included Tennessee's First Lady Andrea Conte and Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owens. While the primary goal of the event was to raise additional awareness of Childhelp's primary goals and functions, the event raised more than $20,000.

Event: "Hops for Hope" - a dinner, dance and beer tasting to raise money for New Hope, the Blount County Children's Advocacy Center.
Location: Dancing Bear Lodge, Townsend
Additional Information: Tickets for Hops for Hope are $50 and include a souvenir tasting mug, heavy hors d'ouevres, handcrafted beer, a live band and access to a silent auction. Tickets may be purchased by calling New Hope at (865) 981-2000. The event also will feature informative beer tastings to be conducted by Tennessee and regional breweries, including Olde Hickory from Hickory, N.C.; Highland from Asheville, N.C.; Smoky Mountain from Knoxville; Depot Street from Johnson City; Yazoo from Nashville; Terrapin from Athens, Ga.; and Molo from Chattanooga. For those who dare, the Second Annual Hops Trike Race will test the coordination and agility of attendees. The lodge is also offering overnight accommodations for those who want to prolong their experience. For reservations call (865) 448-6000.
