About the Tennessee Bar Association

The Tennessee Bar Association has committed itself to the professional growth and service of Tennessee attorneys since its founding in 1881 — more than 125 years ago. Throughout its history, the TBA has been a strong voice for attorneys, leading the way to reforms in the General Assembly, the courts and in the public arena. In addition, the TBA is a ready resource for members, offering the most extensive continuing legal education program in the state, a wide array of publications, forums and newsletters to keep members informed and a collection of more than 40 sections, committees and divisions to meet the needs of its members in specialized practices.

Board of Governors

Board of Governors

This group of representatives serve as the governing body of the Tennessee Bar Association. Members are elected to serve geographic districts within the state as well as each grand division. In addition, representatives from the TBA House of Delegates and the TBA Young Lawyers Division join representatives from the Tennessee Judicial Conference, the Tennessee District Attorneys General Conference and the Tennessee Public Defenders Conference as voting members.
House of Delegates

House of Delegates

The TBA House of Delegates is made up of representatives from each of the state’s 31 judicial districts as well as young lawyer delegates from each grand division. It considers, debates and makes policy recommendations on matters of interest and concern to the legal profession, acting on matters brought to its attention by the Board of Governors or through its own initiative.
The TLCF

The TLCF

The Tennessee Legal Community Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that provides continuing legal education for members of the Tennessee legal community and works to increase the public’s access to our justice system. The TLCF works through the Tennessee Youth Courts program and the Corporate Counsel Pro Bono Initiative to educate and equip non-lawyers with knowledge and skills pertaining to the law, the legal process, the legal system, and fundamental principles and values on which these are based.
