Access to Justice

The legal profession has a long history of serving the most vulnerable in our communities, and the notion of helping those in need is an inherent part of the Tennessee Bar Association’s tradition. As it pertains to the legal profession, the concept of pro bono publico, or “for the good of the public,” is built upon one simple premise: equal access to justice for all.

Corporate Counsel Pro Bono Initiative

This joint initiative helps foster a coordinated approach to pro bono work and support for the access to justice community by corporate counsel in Tennessee.

OnlineTNJustice.org is a joint project of the Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services, the law firm of Baker Donelson Bearman Caldwell & Berkowitz and the Tennessee Bar Association. Special thanks to Microsoft, Dell, and to the Tennessee Supreme Court’s Access to Justice Commission for their critical support of this project.

Hometown Support

Hometown Support is a program that makes free legal help available to service members and their families with limited income who are facing legal problems in Tennessee. The program is coordinated by legal services offices across the state.

Celebrate Pro Bono

Each October, Celebrate Pro Bono brings together bar associations, law schools, law firms, legal services providers and individual lawyers to offer free services to those unable to afford a lawyer, and to celebrate those contributions.

Disaster Relief Resources

Tornadoes, floods and other natural disasters have caused suffering for thousands of our fellow citizens. To provide relief and recovery assistance, the Tennessee Bar Association has worked with local, state and national legal groups to put plans in place to ensure a coordinated delivery of resources to those in the Tennessee legal community and the community at large. In addition, a handbook is available to assist lawyers providing legal assistance to disaster victims.
