PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT

ORDER

The Tennessee Bar Association has petitioned this Court for the adoption of proposed
Tennessee Rules of Professional Conduct to replace the present Code of Professional
Responsibility that is set forth in Rule 8 of the Tennessee Supreme Court Rules. The new
proposed rules are attached as Exhibit A to the Bar’s petition.

In the interest of providing prompt and fair consideration of the important public policy
issues raised by the petition, the Court hereby solicits written responses from the bench, bar and
public. Comments should be addressed to:

The deadline for written comments is April 30, 2001. The Tennessee Bar Association, as
the petitioner, shall have sixty (60) days after the expiration of the deadline in which to file a
response to the written comments.

The Clerk shall provide a copy of this order to the media and to the petitioner. The
petitioner shall serve its petition and proposed Rules, together with a copy of this order, on the
bar associations of this State.
