Scenes from the 2009 Bench Bar Luncheon
A record number of attorneys and judges attended the annual Bench/Bar Luncheon today (June 18) at the Memphis Convention Center. Along with a keynote address from former UT football coach Phil Fulmer, several awards were presented for service to the Tennessee Lawyers Assistance Program. The four honored Judge Butch Childers, Stafford McNamee, Jacqueline Dixon and Christopher Hall have all served since the board was formed nine years ago.
In his speech, Fulmer reflected on TBA President Buck Lewis' theme for the year Leaving a Proud and Enduring Legacy with his own thoughts about building a legacy. He challenged lawyers and judges in the room to surround themselves with good people, respect and honor what they believe in, recognize that everyone is important, and be part of something greater than themselves. He concluded by encouraging listeners to "dream big but wear overalls" -- a reference to the fact that doing great things often requires hard work and a humble spirit.
