Child Abuse Prevention Month Events

CASA OF THE 9TH JUDICIAL DISTRICT

Diaper Drive
From March 21 to April 18, the agency is hosting a Diaper Drive in Loudon County. Bins will be set up in the Loudon and Lenoir City Foodcity, and the Roane State Community College for diaper drop offs. The diapers will benefit Loudon County's Mideast Headstart and Iva's Place.

Pinwheel Gardens
The agency also is creating Pinwheel Gardens at the Loudon County Justice Center, Loudon High School and Roane State Community College. Pinwheel Gardens are planted to represent cases of child abuse and neglect and to help educate communities about the importance of supporting children and families. Shining in the sun, the pinwheel is reflective of the bright future all children deserve and the belief that getting it right early is less costly than trying to fix it later.


CASA CORRIDOR OF EAST TENNESSEE

4th Annual Walk & Run
CASA Corridor of East Tennessee will hold the 4th Annual "I Am for the Child" Walk and Sarah Hall 5K Run on April 26. The event will begin at the Market Park Pavilion at 8 a.m. with the 5K. The first walk will take place at 9 a.m., followed by a second at 11 a.m. Speakers, choirs and children's activities will take place throughout the morning.  Various community organizations will set up information tables and Voices of Deliverance will be selling barbeque. Registration fees are $15 per person with special pricing for groups of 10 or more. Groups that serve children are invited to set up a table and share their information. CASA OF HENDERSON COUNTY

Sponsor a Child
CASA of Henderson County will hold its annual Sponsor a Child during the month of April with a special push at a telethon the week of April 21-25. It takes just $10 a month or $120 a year to sponsor a child. The agency is hoping to find sponsors for all 141 children it served in 2013.


CASA FOR KIDS

Traveling Photo Booth
CASA for Kids' Inc. will host a Traveling Photo Booth throughout the month of April. The booth will be set up in various places around Sullivan and Hawkins counties, including in Kingsport and Bristol. The purpose of the display is to raise awareness of the agency's services and the realities of child abuse.


MADISON COUNTY CASA

CASA Night at the Jackson Generals
Madison County CASA and the Jackson Generals -- a Class AA affiliate of the Seattle Mariners -- will host CASA Night at the ballpark on Saturday, April 12. Join friends and colleagues as the Jackson Generals take on the Mississippi Braves at 6:05 p.m. and enjoy a special post-game fireworks show. Discounted tickets are available for $8, with $4 of each ticket going to help abused and neglected children in Madison County. Boots, Bands and Bingo
On Friday, April 18, the agency will participate in the Jackson Service League's event "Boots, Bands and Bingo." The fun kicks off at 7 p.m. at the Barn at Snider Farms, 1998 Denmark Jackson Rd., Denmark 38391. The event will feature a live band, barbecue, silent auction and, of course, bingo, and will raise funds for a variety of local Jackson charities, including Madison County CASA. Get tickets online.

Through the Lens
The agency will host a photography exhibit titled Through the Lens, which will feature local photographers as they depict events that children in foster care may not be able to experience. The free event is scheduled for April 3 at 5:30 p.m. at Wall Candy in Downtown Columbia, 116B W. 7th St. Download a press release for more details.

Child Abuse Awareness Walk
CASA Monroe is hosting a Child Abuse Awareness Walk on April 25 at noon at the Monroe County Courthouse in Madisonville. All are welcome to join the fight against child abuse. County Mayor Tim Yates will be reading a Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation as well. All elected officials and candidates are encouraged to attend.


CASA NASHVILLE

15th Annual RED SHOE Party
CASA Nashville is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and on April 12 is hosting its 15th annual Red Shoe Party. The event includes a cocktail party, dinner, dance and auction. This year's party will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. at Rocketown, 601 4th Ave. S., Nashville 37203. Individual tickets are $150 with all proceeds benefitting the mission of CASA. CASA OF ROBERTSON COUNTY

Pinwheel Garden Event
On April 1, the agency will plant its pinwheel garden on the lawn of the Robertson County Courthouse. At 9 a.m., the mayor will proclaim April as Child Abuse Awareness Month by reading a proclamation.

Darkness to Light Training
On April 1 at 5:30 p.m., the agency will hold a volunteer training session.

Rev Up Spring Booth
On April 5 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., the agency will staff two booths at the Rev Up Spring event at Travis Price Park. The booths will educate event attendees about the services provided by the agency.

Discover White House Booth
On April 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the agency will staff a booth at the Discover White House event at the White House Heritage High School.

Strike Out Child Abuse Bowling Tournament
On April 27 beginning at 1:30 p.m., the agency will hold its annual Strike Out Child Abuse Bowling Tournament at Spin-A-Pin Bowling Lanes in Springfield.

Child Abuse Awareness Tour
Throughout the month, the agency will speak to various groups in the community about child abuse. Those scheduled to date are as follows:

5K Run
The agency will sponsor a 5K Run & 50 Yard Dash on April 19 at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center.
