TBA Leadership Law Class Selection Guidelines

Candidates
Selection of participants for the TBA Leadership Law class is always very competitive. Candidates for the program should be emerging leaders who are intelligent and curious, and who have already shown themselves to be actively committed and personally responsible.

Candidates should have five to 15 years of experience in practice, though some may be more seasoned. Each TBA Leadership Law class consists of approximately 30-35 participants and is chosen to represent the full diversity of the profession in Tennessee, reflecting diversity in gender and race, geography, and practice area.

Selection Process
Nominations are reviewed by the TBA Leadership Law Steering Committee and full applications and detailed program information are sent to those who meet program guidelines. Those who choose to compete for a seat in the six-month program must return these applications by Oct. 1, 2009.

All applications are reviewed by the TBA Leadership Law Steering Committee, which chooses the class members. Scholarship assistance is available to those chosen.

The Program
The six-month Leadership Law program begins with a weekend retreat Jan. 21-23 at Montgomery Bell State Park. That is followed by monthly day programs in Nashville, Knoxville and Memphis, each focusing on different issues facing the profession and programming to build leadership skills and abilities.

A graduation ceremony will be held during the TBA's Annual Convention in Nashville on June 3-5, 2010.
