Dear Coaches, Sponsors and Students:
Please replace the map that is located on page 45 of the Case Materials with the revised replacement map, now marked as Exhibit 5. While the Mock Trial Committee is hesitant to make changes to the materials after they are posted, we have received numerous questions and concerns regarding the original map. Specifically, concerns were raised as to the issue of the map’s scale. While the Mock Trial Committee intended the map’s scale to be used only for the substantive issue of where the Plaintiff came to rest following the accident, it was not intended for the scale to be used on other parts of the map, such as building size and lane width, for non-substantive purposes. Due to possible confusion resulting from the map’s scale not being accurate throughout the entire map, the Mock Trial Committee has decided to issue a replacement map.
The ONLY changes made to the map are as follows:
1. Scale: 1/8” = 1’ has been replaced by “MAP NOT TO SCALE”
2. On the PL arrow of the MAP, we have added PL1 and PL2 to each end of the arrow.
3. We have added information for the distance between PL1 and PL2 and the distance from PL2 to the middle of the crosswalk.
The Mock Trial Committee does not believe that this change will materially change any team’s strategy or affect the presentation of evidence in this case.
The Mock Trial Committee does not contemplate making additional changes or corrections to the Case Materials or the Rules. However, I encourage each team to visit the Mock Trial Forum, as the Mock Trial Committee continues to answer general questions and make clarifications, such as typos and rule interpretations, as they arise.
