American Bar Association YLD – The ABA YLD will hold its 2014 Annual Meeting in Boston Aug. 7-9. At the meeting, incoming Chair Andrew Schpak of Portland, Oregon, will unveil details for the group’s annual service project, which will focus on homeless youth. Other upcoming events include the ABA YLD Fall Meeting Oct. 9-11 in Portland and the Spring 2015 Meeting May 14-16 in Tampa, Florida. Jackson Madison County Bar Association YLD – As of July 1, Kortney Simmons took over as president of the Jackson-Madison County Bar Association YLD. She replaces Josh Dougan. Knoxville Bar Association Barristers – The Barristers’ next meeting will take place Aug. 13 at 5 p.m. at the Bistro by the Bijou, 807 South Gay St. The next happy hour is scheduled for Aug. 28 beginning at 6 p.m. at Clancy’s Tavern & Whiskey House, 602 S Gay St. Other upcoming activities include the following:

Firms for Food – The Hunger and Poverty Relief Committee is still seeking firms to volunteer one Saturday a month to help sort and package food at Second Harvest. Volunteers are need for September through December. Contact Heather Ferguson or Samantha Parris for more information.

Volunteer Breakfast – Volunteers are needed to serve breakfast at the Volunteer Ministry Center on the fourth Thursday of every month. Contact Alan Moore, (865) 406-9788 or Paul Wehmeier, (865) 546-7000 to get involved.

Charity Golf Tournament – The KBA and Barristers' Annual Golf Tournament is scheduled for Sept. 12 at Avalon Golf & Country Club. The entry fee of $100 per player includes green fees, cart, range balls, box lunch, commemorative gift, two drinkk tickets, prizes and a BBQ cookout. Tee times start at 11:30 a.m. with an official shotgun start at 1 p.m. A discounted rate is being offered to law students and attorneys licensed five years or less. All entries and payments must be received by Aug. 22. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Barristers' charitable endeavors. Participants may sign up as individuals or teams, but each team must include at least one lawyer. Cornhole Tournament – Mark your calendar for the 2014 Barristers’ Cornhole Tournament on Sept. 25. All proceeds will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee.

Memphis Bar Association YLD – The MBA YLD will host its Annual Golf Tournament Oct. 10 at the Links at Galloway in East Memphis. Located on Walnut Grove just east of Highland, Galloway provides exciting play for golfers of any skill level. Nashville Bar Association YLD – The NBA YLD is a cosponsor of the Casa Azafran Legal Clinic, which provides free legal services to individuals in predominantly Hispanic areas of Nashville. Upper Cumberland Young Lawyers Association – The Upper Cumberland YLA held its annual “Coffee Talk with Judges” earlier this month at John’s Place in Cookeville. Activities for the fall include a pro bono clinic set for Sept. 18 from 4:30-7 p.m. at the Legal Aid Society Office in Cookeville. Attorney volunteers are needed to provide advice.
