American Bar Association YLD -- The ABA YLD welcomed nearly 350 young attorneys to Chicago for its Mid-Year Meeting Feb. 6-8. The Windy City lived up to its name with subzero temperatures all week. Chattanooga Bar Association YLD -- The CBA YLD hosted its first of four "Coffee Talks with the Judges" on March 11 at Greyfriars Coffee & Tea. General Sessions Judges Christie Sell and Lila Statom shared their experiences with young lawyers and provided helpful tips for success in the courtroom. The next event is set for June and will feature local circuit court judges. The group also held a social event on March 20 and continues to raise funds for Pro Bono Night, an event that supports Legal Aid. Knoxville Bar Association Barristers -- The Barristers will hold its next meeting April 9 at 5 p.m. at the Bistro by the Bijou. Other upcoming activities include presentation of the 2014 Law and Liberty Award, which recognizes members of the community who have used the legal system to advance and protect personal, political and civil liberties. Nominations for the award are being accepted through April 15 and should be sent to Casey Carrigan or Matt Sherrod. The award recipient will be announced at the KBA Law Day Luncheon May 2.

Also as part of the association’s annual Law Week celebration, the Barristers will present an educational video to area third grade classes. This year's video, "Junior Judges:  Helping Kids Make Smart Choices," depicts seven real-life scenarios for students to judge what options they have in tough situations and encourage them to make smart choices. Topics include cheating, destroying property, bullying, teasing, stealing, drugs and alcohol, gangs and weapons. Volunteers are needed to present the material. Finally, the group announced that its 2014 Golf Tournament will take place Sept. 12 at Avalon Golf & Country Club. Spots for hole sponsors and beverage cart sponsors are available. Memphis Bar Association YLD -- The MBA YLD reports that it has planned an active and fun schedule of social events and community service opportunities for the spring. Among the upcoming activities is a Memphis Grizzlies MBA YLD Night on April 16, which will be held in conjunction with the last regular season game against the Dallas Mavericks. Terrace I seats are $49. First Tennessee Club seats are $95 and include a Marc Gasol Replica Jersey. RSVP by March 31 to Christina Kurdilla. Prior to the game, attendees will gather for a Happy Hour sponsored by Thomson Reuters.

On April 17, the group will participate in its annual Channel 3 Legal Lines, which allows Memphis area residents to call in to the television station and speak to a volunteer lawyer. For more information or to get involved contact Mary Wu.

The group also reports that its Veterans’ Pro Bono Clinic initiative continues to be a success with an average of 30 pro bono clients being helped each month. At the last event, 10 volunteer attorneys provided pro bono legal services to 32 veterans. Young lawyers also are encouraged to attend the MBA Bench Bar Conference, which will be held May 7-10 at Tops’l Beach Resort in Destin, Fla. First time attendees who register by April 18 will be entered in a drawing to receive $100 off the registration fee compliments of Bank Tennessee. Five awards will be given. Finally, the MBA YLD has announced that its Annual Charity Golf Tournament will be held Oct. 10. It also encourages members to support the 3rd Annual AWA Foundation Golf Tournament set for May 30. The entry fee for the event, sponsored by the Memphis-based Association for Women Attorneys, includes lunch and drink tickets, prizes, a gift bag and a chance to win a new Lexus.

Nashville Bar Association YLD -- The NBA YLD will hold a happy hour on April 24 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Pub 5 next to Bridgestone Arena at 104 5th Ave. S. It also will support the NBA’s Golf Tournament on May 15 at Vanderbilt Legends Club and the city’s annual Arts Immersion event set for May 28 from 6 to 9 p.m. The YLD will hold its annual Carbolic Smoke Ball on July 19 from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. at the Hard Rock Café.
