Mistrial Declared in Edwards Case

Two-time Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards walked out of court a free man this afternoon after a jury cleared him of one federal corruption count and deadlocked on five others. U.S. District Judge Catherine Eagles declared a mistrial. Prosecutors had accused the onetime North Carolina senator of using nearly $1 million in illegal campaign contributions to keep his pregnant mistress a secret as he ran for president in 2008.
