Nashville school claims
2004 Mock Trial title
Nashville's Hume-Fogg Academic High School defeated two-time state and national champ Family Christian Academy to win the TBA's 2004 State High School Mock Trial Competition.
The event sponsored by the TBA's Young Lawyers Division and held March 12 and 13 at the temporary courthouse facilities in Nashville's Metro Center featured 19 teams from across the state competing in four rounds leading up to the championship round Saturday afternoon. That's where Hume-Fogg squared off against the Chattanooga home-school team that has dominated competition the past two years.
State Court of Appeals Judge Patricia Cottrell presided over the championship round. Hume-Fogg is coached by Ken King, Jordan Keller and Jennifer Ghanem. Members of the team are Caroline Tenebaum, Sarah Allen, Hannah Choate, Susan Zheng, Carly Summers, Marissa Valz and Kayla Pope.
Following behind Hume-Fogg and Family Christian Academy were University School of Nashville in third place and Central High School in Memphis in fourth place. Individual honors were awarded to students from Dobyns-Bennett High School (Kingsport), Clinton High School and Family Christian Academy.
As always, the competition is a success because of the strong support from volunteers. Along with the hard work by the Young Lawyers Division crew led by Committee Chair David Johnson from Miller & Martin in Nashville the event couldn't have taken place without support from the judiciary. Thanks to all of these members of the judiciary who volunteered their time to serve as judges in the competition.
