American Bar Association YLD -- The ABA YLD will hold its fall conference in Charleston, S.C., Oct. 18-20. Along with a range of educational programs, the conference will feature presentations by South Carolina Chief Justice Jean Hoefer Toal and Justice Costa M. Pleicones. Social events include an evening at the South Carolina Aquarium. Get details here
The ABA YLD also announced a new voting initiative. American Voter, which kicked off this month, is a nonpartisan public-service campaign designed to educate current and future voters about the history of voting rights in the United States and the importance of exercising the right to vote. The group is asking young lawyers across the country to volunteer for voter registration, Election Day poll watching and community education. The program website offers resources for presenting law-focused education projects in the classroom or community gatherings.

Knoxville Bar Association Barristers -- The Barristers will host its Third Annual Cornhole Throwdown on Oct. 6 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Bearden Beer Market, 4524 Old Kingston Pike. Two-person teams can register for $15 per player. All net proceeds will go to the local CASA organization and Wesley House. Download a registration form or register online.
Other upcoming events include the Barristers' monthly meeting on Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. at the Bistro and the Oct. 12 Annual KBA and Barristers Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held at the Avalon Landmark Golf Club. Registration, practice range privileges and box lunches will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A shotgun start will take place at 1 p.m. Following the tournament, players are invited to a BBQ dinner. Participants may sign up as individuals or teams, but each team must include at least one lawyer. The entry fee of $100 per player includes green fees, cart, range balls, box lunch, a commemorative tournament gift, two tickets for beverages during the tournament, prizes and cookout following the tournament. Finally, the group is recruiting volunteers for Knox County Saturday Bar clinics to be held throughout the fall. Dates include Oct. 13, Oct. 27, Nov. 10 and Dec. 1. Memphis Bar Association YLD -- The MBA YLD will host its annual golf tournament Sept. 28 at Glen Eagle Golf Course in Millington with a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Registration is $65 per person with proceeds benefiting the Downtown Porter Boys and Girls Club. Prizes will be awarded to the top finishers, as well as for the longest drive and closet to the pin. Sponsors of this year's tournament are Alpha Reporting Corp., BankTennessee, IPSCO - Insurance Service & Planning Co., and The Marston Group. Register online
In addition, the YLD will be sponsoring a happy hour on Oct. 18, staffing MALS' monthly Saturday Legal Clinic on Nov. 10, and cosponsoring a transitional legal education program for newly admitted lawyers on Nov. 15. The legal clinic will be held at the Benjamin L. Hooks Central Library from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Contact Jonathan Nelson or Nicole Grida to participate.
