American Bar Association YLD -- The ABA Midyear Meeting will be held at the Swissôtel in Chicago, Feb. 6-8, 2014. Registration is free. The group has announced the theme and deadlines for the 2014 Law Day Art Contest, which is open to students in grades 9-12. This year’s theme is “American Democracy and the Rule of Law: Why Every Vote Matters.” The entry deadline is March 7, 2014. Finally, the ABA announced it is accepting applications and nominations for 2014-2015 presidential appointments to committees, commissions and other entities. The online application process will be available until Feb. 28. Chattanooga Bar Association YLD -- On Dec. 19, the CBA YLD held its Annual Holiday Party. Those attending brought toys and cash donations to support the Salvation Army Angel Tree Project. On Jan. 25, 2014, the group will team up with Legal Aid of East Tennessee to conduct an all-day pro bono legal clinic for low-income citizens. Also in January, the CBA YLD will elect a new board. Knoxville Bar Association Barristers -- The Barristers held its Annual Meeting and Elections on Dec. 11. At the meeting, James (Jay) P. Moneyhun Jr. with Egerton, McAfee, Armistead & Davis assumed the Barristers presidency, succeeding Katrina Atchley Arbogast with Lewis, King, Krieg & Waldrop. Others taking office included Vice President Taylor A. Williams with Paine, Tarwater, and Bickers; Secretary/Treasurer William H. Kittrell with Egerton, McAfee, Armistead & Davis; and board members Katherine S. Goodner with Paine, Tarwater and Bickers and Rachel P. Hurt with Arnett, Draper & Hagood. YWCA Race Against Racism -- The Barristers Diversity Committee invites lawyers to participate in the 2014 YWCA Race Against Racism Jan. 18, 2014, at the YWCA Phyllis Wheatley Center. The Kids Fun Run begins at 12:30 p.m. The 5k Run/Walk starts at 1 p.m. The cost is $30 per participant and includes a t-shirt. Barristers members will meet at Dr. Walter Hardy Memorial Park at noon for those who want to run together.
