Lawyers Complete 2016 TBA Leadership Program

Class of 31 graduates, selects Gallatin lawyer for service award

NASHVILLE, June 27, 2016 -- Thirty-one attorneys from across the state graduated from the Tennessee Bar Association’s Leadership Law program during the association's annual convention in Nashville last week. The group spent the last six months learning about leadership in the legal profession, issues in the courts, policymaking in state government and the importance of community service.

4 Lawyers Selected for 40 Under 40

Four attorneys were among the 40 Under 40 group of honorees released today by the Nashville Business Journal. The list includes Ashleigh Roberts, deputy counsel to Gov. Bill Haslam; Gabe Roberts, the general counsel to the TennCare Bureau in the Department of Finance and Administration; Elizabeth Tipping, a member at Neal and Harwell PLC; and James “Patrick” Warfield an associated at Burr & Forman. Ashleigh Roberts is a 2014 graduate of the TBA Leadership Law program, while Gabe Roberts is a member of the current class.

Nominations Accepted for Emerging Leader Awards

The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce and YP Nashville is currently accepting nominations of young professionals for the Nashville Emerging Leader Awards program. NELAs are given in 15 categories including Legal Services, Business Services, and Community Service and Nonprofit. Applications are available online and are due Feb. 2.

New Leadership Law Class Launches at Retreat

The 13th class of the TBA's Leadership Law (TBALL) program is kicking off six-months of programming this weekend at Montgomery Bell State Park. The program is designed to equip Tennessee lawyers with the vision, knowledge and skills necessary to serve as leaders in their profession and local communities. Among those speaking during the three-day retreat are Byron Trauger, Houston Gordon, Dean William Koch, TBA President Bill Harbison, Abby Rubenfeld, Gordon Bonnyman, Dwight Tarwater, Buck Lewis, Lisa Richter and Randy Kinnard. The group will hold regular monthly sessions throughout the spring, before graduating during the TBA Annual Convention, planned for June 18 in Nashville.

TBA Welcomes New Staff Members

The Tennessee Bar Association this month welcomed three new staff members. Brenda Gadd is the TBA’s new public policy coordinator. She will work closely with the Government Affairs Committee to help represent the TBA and its members before the General Assembly and other policy making bodies. Also new to the TBA is Kate Prince, who will serve as TBA Leadership Law Coordinator, as well as manage the TBA’s Mentoring Program and work with a new committee studying advancements in the delivery of legal services. Finally, TBA welcomed Amelia Ferrell, the newest addition to its communications team. Ferrell will write for TBAToday and the Tennessee Bar Journal, as well as expand TBA’s activity on social media platforms and coordinate media relations.
