Jim Murphy is a partner in the Nashville office of Bradley Arant Boult Cummings, LLP., where he practices in the areas of municipal law, land use, economic incentives, eminent domain and commercial real estate. Jim has represented both governmental entities and private sector clients in numerous economic incentives transactions. He has assisted in the creation of economic incentives grant programs, structuring tax increment financings, and negotiating in lieu of tax agreements. Jim has handled land use matters on a wide variety of subjects from rezoning, special exceptions/conditional uses and variance requests to challenges to the validity of zoning regulations to defending zoning enforcement cases. Jim assists wireless telecommunications tower owners and carriers in acquisition and development of wireless tower sites. Jim regularly handles condemnation cases and local government procurement disputes. Jim also has considerable experience handling election disputes. Prior to joining the firm in 1999, Jim served as the Director of Law for Metro Nashville, where he advised Mayor Phil Bredesen and the Metro Council on numerous major economic development transactions, including the relocation of the Tennessee Titans to Nashville, the development of the NFL stadium, the development of Gaylord Entertainment Center, the expansion of Gaylord’s Opryland complex and Dell Computer Corporation. Jim has served on Board of Trustees for the University of Tennessee since 2003. He served as Vice-Chair of the Board of Trustees from 2008-2011 and currently serves as Chair of the Trusteeship Committee. Jim is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Nashville Sports Council, serves as the Co-Chair of Nashville NHL All-Star Game, Inc., and is a member of the Metro Nashville Charter Revision Commission.
