Justin P. Sievert is senior counsel to Buckner on issues relating to higher education and intercollegiate athletics and serves as the practice group leader for the Small College Athletics practice group, which focuses on NCAA Division II and III and NAIA member institutions. Colleges and universities turn to Sievert on investigations, high-profile enforcement actions, and various athletics department enhancement initiatives. Additionally, Sievert is an adjunct sports law, business law and labor and employment law professor at Davenport University. Prior to joining Buckner, Sievert worked at multiple NCAA member institutions in a variety of administrative roles, including, athletics compliance, business operations, event management and facility operations. Sievert is considered a skillful advocate on sports law and sports business-related issues and is often requested for national media commentaries and interviews. He has been quoted in numerous newspapers, including The New York Times, the Miami Herald and USA Today and has served as a regular guest on multiple national sports talk show radio programs. Further, he has authored several published legal articles on topics related to sports law and sports business. Sievert currently operates Small College Solutions, a website dedicated to the enhancement of small college and university athletics departments. Sievert is a member of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and the Nashville Sports Council. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Union College in 2003, where he was a multisport athlete in football and track and field. He graduated with a Master’s degree in Education from St. Lawrence University in 2005 and a J.D. from the University of Miami (FL) School of Law in 2008, where he was a member of the International Moot Court Board. He is admitted to practice in Florida, North Carolina and Tennessee, as well as the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Sievert currently resides in Brentwood, Tennessee.
