After graduating from UT law school in 2003, Sherri worked as an associate attorney at two Knoxville firms for a few years. Then she joined the Maryville firm of Kizer & Black, Attorneys, PLLC where she practiced in the areas of estate planning, probate, conservatorships and trusts for several years. In 2012, Sherri moved to East Tennessee Foundation, a community foundation located in Knoxville, to become its chief development officer. Her husband, Keith Alley, is also an attorney who practices general civil litigation at Kizer & Black, Attorneys, PLLC.
