My approach to planning is distinguished by two factors: sophisticated techniques and intentional design. I will inform you on the best methods to meet your individual goals, and then design a blueprint for implementation that integrates all of the chosen strategies into one comprehensive plan. I will vigorously advocate for intelligent and efficient preparation for what the future can and will hold. I will guide you through basic estate planning and assist your loved ones when, for disability or death, it comes time to administer or settle your affairs, whether in or out of court, with or without a plan. I will counsel you on establishing and managing a compliant charity. I will support your business with a demonstrated proficiency in a broad range of enterprise formation, organizational, governance, and continuity issues. I will counsel clients on a variety of ways to minimize your taxes, whatever tax it might be. I will show you how to make gifts intelligently and efficiently. I can even clue you in on techniques for moving assets and income to lower tax jurisdictions. I will help you avoid pitfalls in the use of life insurance and the preservation of built-up earnings in IRAs and illustrate ways to minimize or even eliminate capital gains in potential liquidity or other recognition events. I will support your efforts to segregate and curtail the impact of both inside and outside liability through the utilization of domestic and foreign trusts and entities, and I will endeavor to do all of these things from a fully-orbed legal and transactional perspective with integrity, grace, sensitivity, and good humor. I also will not teach you a class on the art and science of clock-building, when all you want to know is the time. Furthermore, after I have your final fee check, I will make every effort to insure that your prudent investment in comprehensive planning is not squandered by a “put it up on the shelf” mistake. I will approach you and your loved one in a manner that is personable, confidential, and informative, always recognizing that estate planning and its related disciplines have an extremely important ethical dimension, and while I also appreciate that estate planning is, first and foremost, about people, I know when to focus my attention on process. My mission in every encounter with you is to ascertain your vision through sensitive discovery, aid you in formulating and articulating meaningful objectives, inform you of a range of options without prejudice, make recommendations that comport with your real goals, educate you about the true costs and quantifiable benefits of the techniques I recommend, obtain your personal and financial commitment to putting your plan into action, and then implement your plan in the highest standards of skill and professionalism with an eye toward fostering a relationship characterized by explicit trust and enduring longevity.
