Walt Schuler graduated from the University of Memphis, magna cum laude, with the degree of Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business in 1993. He received his J.D., cum laude, from Saint Louis University, with a Certificate in Health Law with Honors in 1996. In law school, he served on the editorial board of the Saint Louis University Law Journal and received the distinguished award for best student article, among other honors. After law school, Walt returned to Memphis to join The Bogatin Law Firm, PLC. He became a partner in that firm, and later in its successor, Evans, Petree, Bogatin, P.C., where he practiced until 2009. Walt joined The University of Tennessee’s Office of General Counsel in 2009, where he continues his practice in the areas of health care law, business law, contracts, civil litigation, and state and federal administrative law. He has argued cases before the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, the Tennessee Supreme Court, and the Tennessee Court of Appeals. Walt is an active member of the Tennessee Bar Association, serving as Chair of its Health Care Law Section in 2012, Vice-Chair in 2011, and on the Section’s Executive Council since 2009. Walt is also an active member of the Memphis Bar Association, serving as a founding board member and CLE Committee Chair of its Health Law Section in 2012-13, and as the Section's current Chair. Walt is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, and he is a frequent writer and speaker on health law topics.
