The Board of Professional Responsibility Advisory Committee
Request for Comments
In May 2003, the Supreme Court of Tennessee established and appointed a nine-member Advisory Committee to undertake a comprehensive review of the structure, function and operation of the Board of Professional Responsibility, which is responsible for the enforcement of the ethical rules that apply to lawyers practicing in Tennessee. The Advisory Committee filed its report with the Court on June 15, 2004. On June 29, 2004, the Court entered an order soliciting written comments concerning the report from all interested parties, including members of the public, lawyers and bar organizations, and members of the judiciary. All written comments must be submitted by August 2, 2004, to:

The written Report and Recommendations of the Board of Professional Responsibility Advisory Committee submitted to the Court comprises the following separate documents:
1. the Advisory Committees report;
2. the Tennessee Report on the Lawyer Regulatory System Sponsored by the American Bar Association Standing Committee on Professional Discipline;
3. the Response of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel to the ABA Report on the Tennessee Lawyer Disciplinary Regulation System With Selected Comments of Disciplinary Counsel Staff; and
4. written comments submitted on behalf of the Nashville Bar Association and the Blount County Bar Association.
It should be noted that the Tennessee Report on the Lawyer Regulatory System (prepared by the ABA Standing Committee) contains seven appendices that are not reproduced on this website.
