Celebrating the rule of law, American legal system

TBA President Bill Haltom has launched an initiative to celebrate the rule of law and the American legal system. The Stand Up and Deliver program features both an educational campaign — lawyers across the state are speaking to civic groups, school classes and others on the topic — and a volunteer effort, in which lawyers are stepping forward to take on pro bono work across the state.

In encouraging lawyers to join in the statewide-grassroots campaign, Haltom hopes to remind citizens that what makes America great is not wealth, military might or national resources, but the rule of law.

“We are a nation of laws,” Haltom says. “All men and women are considered equal under the law, and disputes are resolved by the impartial application of the law by judge and juries.”
