Thiscommutationisgrantedconditionedthattheaforesaidprisonerobeyalltherulesandregulationsoftheauthorityhavingcustodyofhim,leadthelifeofagoodcitizen,obeyallthelawsoftheNation,States,andMunicipalitiesandshallnotbeguiltyofotherconduct,intheopinionoftheGovernor,improperandillegal.Intheeventanyoftheforegoingconditionsareviolated,theGovernor,athisoption(orontherecommendationoftheStateBoardofPardons,ParolesandProbation)mayissueawarrantforthearrestandreturnofsaidprisonertotheWardenoftheStatePenitentiarytoundergoremainderofsaidoriginalorcommutedsentence,asdeterminedbytheGovernor.TheGovernorshallbesolejudgeastowhetherornotanyoftheaforesaidconditionshavebeenviolated,andthereshallbenoreviewofhisactionthereonbyanyCourtwhatsoever. 0 0    0 Almostsimultaneously,Mr.Lemay,whileonworkreleaseandemployedbythestatecomptrollersoffice,transferred$20,000fromthestatetreasurytoaprivatebankaccount.TheninMayof1979heescapedfromcustody. d9\28 Ї  0 Mr.LemayremainedfreeuntilDecemberof1979.InMayof1980hewassentencedtothreeyearsofadditionaltimeoneachoffivecountsofobtainingpropertyunderfalsepretenses.Healsogotanotheryearforescape.InNovemberof1980GovernorAlexanderrevokedMr.Lemayscommutation.  0 InJuneof1996Mr.LemayaskedtheDepartmentofCorrectionforadeclaratoryorderthathewasentitledtoimmediaterelease.HearguedthatGovernorϜBlantonsoriginalcommutationwasstillineffect,andthatwithallthesentencecreditstowhichhewasentitled,thethirtyyearcommutedsentencehadlongsinceexpired.  0 TheDepartmentrefusedtoissueadeclaratoryorderandMr.LemayfiledapetitionforadeclaratoryjudgmentintheChanceryCourtofDavidsonCounty.SeeTenn.CodeAnn.45224.Inaninterlocutoryorder,thechancellorheldthat %! GovernorAlexandersrevocationinNovemberof1980onlyrevokedhisowncommutationandnotGovernorBlantons.Thereforethesentencestillstoodascommutedtothirtyyears.ApparentlythisorderpromptedGovernorSundquistinDecemberof1997toissuehisownorderspecificallyrevokingtheBlantoncommutation.  0 TheproofintherecordshowedthatwithallcreditsacommutedthirtyyearsentenceexpiredonJanuary16,1986.Thisbringsustotheultimatequestioninthiscase:Isarevocationwithinthetermoftheoriginalsentenceeffectiveaftertheexpirationofacommutedsentence?Thechancellorinherfinalorderheldthatour 815 SupremeCourthadruledthatarevocationofacommutedsentencemusttakeplacebeforethecommutedsentenceexpires.SeeCarrollv.Raney,953S.W.2d657  (Tenn.1997).Therefore,thechancellorheldthatGovernorSundquistsrevocationcametoolate,andthatMr.Lemaywasbeingillegallyheld.@- II.  h`    0 TheGovernorspowertogrant reprievesandpardonshasbeenwellrecognizedinmanyappellatecourtdecisions.SeeCarrollv.Raney,953S.W.2d657  (Tenn.1997);Ricksv.State,882S.W.2d387(Tenn.Cr.App.1994);Whitev.State,  717S.W.2d309(Tenn.Cr.App.1986).ItwillsufficetosayherethatthepowerϜencompassestherighttocommuteasentence,Ricksv.State,󛀜882S.W.2d387  (Tenn.Cr.App.1994)andtoattachconditionsorrestrictionstoacommutedsentence thatarereasonable,legal,andpossibleforthedefendanttoperform.Carrollv. h` МRaney,953S.W.2dat660.Theconditions mustappearonthefaceofthepaper, H!@ andmustbeclearandspecific.Id.󛀀Iftheprisonerviolatestheconditions,the (#  commutationmayberevoked.Whitev.State,PMMPM717S.W.2d309(Tenn.Cr.App.1986)MPM %  MsupraP. %    0 Mr.LemayarguesthatGovernorBlantonscommutationwasunconditionalbecausetheconditionswereonthebackoftheform,andbecausetheconditionswerenotclearandspecific.Werejectbotharguments.TheconditionsappearontheformjustabovethecommutationlanguageitselfandonthesamepagecontainingtheGovernorssignature.Inordertogettothecommutationonemustpassovertheconditions.Therefore,theconditionsareonthefaceofthesheet.TheyarealsoidenticaltotheconditionsimposedonMr.White,whichthecourtapprovedinWhitev.State,QQR717S.W.2d309(Tenn.Cr.App.1986)RS.SOOPPNsupraNO. 704 O 5.2 ̜ 926   0 Passingontotherealquestion,wethinktheanswerliesinunderstandingthenatureoftheGovernorspower.ItisclearthattheGovernorspowertograntreprievesandpardonsislimitedonlybythelanguageintheconstitution.Carrollv.Raney,VVTsupraTU953S.W.2d657(Tenn.1997)UVV.Ingrantingapardon   theGovernorhastherighttoplaceconditionsonthegrant.Stateexrel.Bedfordv.
