Followingahearing,thetrialcourtfoundHusbandtobetechnicallyincontemptofthecourtsordertopaychildsupportbutnotedthathewascurrentonallchildsupportpayments.ThetrialcourtfoundWifeinwillfulcontemptandsentencedhertotwo(2)daysinjail.SubsequenttotheentryoforderfindingWifetobeinwillfulcontempt,Wifefiledamotiontosuspendsentence.ThesoleissuepresentedbyWifeonappealis [w]hetherthetrialcourtimproperlydeniedAppellantspetitionforsuspendedsentencewithoutahearingontheissue. Theorderofthetrialcourtdenyingthemotionbeginsbystating thiscausecameontobeheardonthe10thdayofMay,1996,uponAngelaNancesmotiontosuspendsentence.ThisCourtisoftheopinionthatsaidmotionisnotwelltakenandisthereforedenied.Wepresumefromthetrialcourtsorderthatahearingwasheld.WediscernfromtheargumentsinAppellantsbriefthathercomplaintisthatthetrialcourterredinrefusingtohearevidenceatthehearingonthemotionforasuspendedsentence. Thetrialjudgehasauthoritytorevise,modifyorsuspendasentenceforcontemptwithinhisorherdiscretion. Robinsonv.AirDraulicsEngineeringCo. ,377S.W.2d908,913(Tenn.1964).Rule43.02T.R.C.P.providesthatwhenamotionisbasedonfactsnotappearingofrecord,thecourtmayhearthematteronaffidavitspresentedbytherespectiveparties,butthecourtmaydirectthatthematterbeheardwhollyorpartlyonoraltestimonyordepositions.WefindnothingintherecordbeforeuswhichestablishesthatthetrialcourtrefusedtohearevidenceatthehearingonWifesmotiontosuspendsentence.However,theterm mayinRule43.02suggestsitisinthecourtsdiscretion.InorderforthisCourttodeterminewhetherthatdiscretionwasabused,itwouldbenecessaryforustoexaminetheevidencesoughttohavebeenpresented.Appellatereviewofthetrialcourtsactionistodeterminewhetherornottherewasanabuseofthatdiscretion.Inorderforanappellatecourttoreviewarecordofexcludedevidence,itisfundamentalthatsuchevidencebeplacedintherecordinsomemanner.Whenthatevidenceconsistsoforaltestimonyitisessentialthataproperofferofproofbemadeinorderthattheappellatecourtcandeterminewhetherornotexclusionwasreversible. Statev.Goad ,707S.W.2d846,852853(Tenn.1986). Tenn.R.Evid.103(a)(2)providesasfollows:8  (a) EffectofErroneousRuling .Errormaynotbepredicateduponarulingwhichadmitsorexcludesevidenceunlessasubstantialrightofthepartyisaffected,and8  ....8  (2)OfferofProof.Incasetherulingisoneexcludingevidence,thesubstanceoftheevidenceandthespecificevidentiarybasissupportingadmissionweremadeknowntothecourtbyofferorwereapparentfromthecontext. ThisCourtwasfacedwithasimilarissuein Embryv.Chimenti ,No.02A019305CV00116,1994WL81221(Tenn.App.Mar.16,1994),whereintheplaintiffallegedthatthetrialcourterredinfailingtoallowhimtheopportunitytopresentevidencetosupporthismotionforrecusal.ThisCourtnotedthatthemotionwasaccompaniedbycopiesoftwolettersandtwoaffidavits.Findingnoindicationintherecordastowhatevidencewouldhavebeenprofferedbyplaintiffandnoindicationofanofferofproof,thisissuewasfoundtobewithoutmerit.Noofferofproofisintherecordbeforeusintheinstantcase.
