àœOPINIONóó›ÌThe€appellant,€Billy€Aldridge,€was€convicted€of€aggravated€assault,€a€class€CÏfelony,€and€sentenced€to€ten€years€in€the€Department€of€Corrections€as€a€Range€IIÏmultiple€offender.€€His€sentence€œis›€to€be€served€consecutively€to€other€sentencesÏwhich€he€was€serving€at€the€time€of€this€offense.€€He€raises€two€issues€on€appeal:Ï(a)the€sufficiency€of€the€convicting€evidence;€and€(b)€the€trial€courtððs€failure€to€grant€aÏnew€trial€based€upon€the€appellantððs€claims€of€juror€bias.€€ÌThe€judgment€of€the€trial€court€is€affirmed.ÌThe€events€giving€rise€to€this€criminal€prosecution€occurred€on€July€12,€1994.€ÏAt€that€time€both€the€appellant€and€the€victim,€Carl€Hanks,€were€inmates€of€the€LakeÏCounty€Regional€Correction€facility.€€The€appellant€and€the€victim€had€experiencedÏseveral€minor€disagreements€in€the€months€preceding€July€12,€1994.€€At€the€time€ofÍthe€offense,€the€appellant€was€assigned€to€work€in€the€kitchen€as€the€dishwasher€forÏthe€breakfast€meal.€Another€inmate€was€œworking›€as€cook€and€food€server.€€The€victimÏtestified€that€after€he€had€finished€his€breakfast€meal€and€was€preparing€to€scrape€hisÏtray€into€the€garbage€can€located€just€outside€of€the€door€to€the€kitchen,€the€appellantÏmoved€the€garbage€can€inside€of€the€kitchen€explaining€that€the€garbage€bag€had€aÏhole€in€it.€€The€appellant€instructed€the€victim€to€come€into€the€kitchen€and€put€his€trayÏinto€the€sink.€€No€one€was€present€in€the€kitchen€at€that€time€except€the€victim€and€theÏappellant.€€The€victim€testified€that€he€put€his€tray€into€the€sink€as€instructed,€and€asÏhe€was€turning€to€leave,€the€appellant€removed€a€pan€of€hot€grease€or€butter€from€theÏkitchen€stove€and€intentionally€threw€the€contents€of€the€pan€on€the€victim€causingÏsevere€burns€to€the€victimððs€face,€hand,€arm,€chest,€back,€neck,€and€ear.€€The€burnsÏrequired€the€victim€to€be€hospitalized€for€a€month€and€a€half,€undergo€skin€grafts,€andÏhe€has€permanent€scarring€from€the€injuries.€€ÌThe€appellant€testified€that€he€did€not€intend€to€throw€the€grease€or€butter€onÏthe€victim.€€He€said€that€as€he€was€removing€the€pan€from€the€oven,€he€slipped€on€theÏfloor€and€instinctively€threw€the€pan€in€order€not€to€burn€himself.€€He€said€that€he€hadÏnot€invited€the€victim€into€the€kitchen€area,€had€no€idea€that€he€was€standing€by€theÏsink,€and€that€he€had€no€ill€will€toward€the€victim.€€However,€in€a€statement€given€byÏthe€appellant€to€an€internal€affairs€investigator€at€the€correctional€facility€following€theÏincident,€he€advised€the€investigator€that€as€he€was€removing€the€pan€of€grease€fromÍthe€oven€it€ð
