Afterreview,thejudgmentofthetrialcourtisaffirmed. TheappellantseightyearsentencefromCoffeeCountyistheresultofapleaagreementreducingachargeofaggravatedrapetothatofaggravatedassault.Pursuanttothepleaagreement,sevenyearsoftheappellantseightyearsentencewassuspended.Theappellantsoriginaleightyearsentencewassubsequentlyreinstatedfollowingrevocationofprobation.SeeStatev.Hull,No.01C019406CC00200(Tenn.Crim.App.atNashville,Mar.15,1995).Theappellantcontendsthatheisentitledtohabeascorpusreliefbaseduponthefollowingallegations:(1)thetrialcourtdeniedhimtheopportunitytoamendhishabeascorpuspetitionpriortodismissal;(2)histhreeyearsentenceforreceivingstolenpropertyhadalreadyexpiredatthetimehissuspendedsentencewasrevoked;(3)incorrectinformationhasbeenplacedinhisprisonpersonnelfile,includingerroneousinformationrelatingtojailcreditfortimepreviouslyserved;(4)hewassupervisedasasexoffenderwhileonprobation,althoughhewasnotconvictedofasexoffense;and(5)federallaw,ratherthanstatelaw,governsstatehabeascorpusproceedings. TheStatecontendsthat,evenassumingtheappellantsallegationstobecorrect,hehas,nevertheless,failedtostateacognizableclaimuponwhichhabeascorpusreliefmaybegranted.Moreover,theStatearguesthatitisirrelevantwhetherhisthreeyearsentenceforstolenpropertyexpiredbecausehiscurrentconfinementstemsfromhiseightyearsentenceforaggravatedassault.AfterreviewingthepleadingsinthiscaseandtheStatesmemorandumoflawinsupportofrespondentsmotiontodismiss,thetrialcourtsummarilydismissedtheappellantspetitionforwritofhabeascorpus. 1   ̜ @ I.DenialofHabeasCorpusRelief  InTennessee,habeascorpusreliefisonlyavailablewhenaconvictionisvoidbecausetheconvictingcourtwaswithoutjurisdictionorauthoritytosentenceadefendant,orthatadefendant'ssentencehasexpiredandheisbeingillegallyrestrained.Archerv.State,851S.W.2d157,164(Tenn.1993).Asthetrialcourtproperlyconcluded,theappellant'spetitiondoesnotallegeeitherofthesegroundsforrelief.Rather,thepetitionsubmitsthatthejudgmentisvoidandthesentenceisillegalbecause(1)theStatefailedtocomplywiththetermsofhispleaagreementbyclassifyinghimasasexoffender 2   ׀and(2)thetrialcourtfailedtogivehimcreditfortimepreviouslyserved. 3   ׀Neitherclaimisacognizablegroundforreliefinastatehabeascorpusproceeding.Accordingly,thetrialcourtproperlydismissedthepetition.Passarellav.State,891S.W.2d619,627(Tenn.Crim.App.),perm.toappealdenied,(Tenn.1994). Theappellantalsocontends,asabasisforrelief,thathisthreeyearsentenceforreceivingstolenpropertyhadexpiredatthetimeofhisprobationrevocation.Therecordindicatesthattheappellant'seightyearsentenceforaggravatedassault,onwhichhewasrevoked,willnotexpireuntilDecember,1999.Thiscontentioniswithoutmerit.̜@ II.DenialofMotiontoAmendWrit  Next,theappellantcontendsthatthetrialcourtshouldhavegrantedhimtheopportunitytoamendhiswritofhabeascorpus.TheappellantfiledtheinstantpetitiononMarch,8,1996.OnMay1,1996,hefiledamotiontoamendhispetition.Consequently,thetrialcourtissuedanorderdenyingreliefonMay3,1996.8 Whetherapetitionerinahabeascorpusproceedingshouldbepermittedtoamendhispetitionisamatterwhichaddressesitselftothesounddiscretionofthetrialcourt.ThisCourtwillnotinterferewiththeexerciseofthisdiscretionunlessitappearsonthefaceoftherecordthatithasbeenabused.Weatherlyv.State,704S.W.2d730,732733(Tenn.Crim.App.1985);Stateexrel.Hathawayv.Henderson,432S.W.2d503,506(Tenn.Crim.App.1968).Asageneralrule,atrialcourtdoesnotabuseitsdiscretionindenyingamotiontoamendapetitionwhenthepetitionerdoesnotexplainthenatureoftheamendment.Holtv.State,No.01C019110CC00321(Tenn.Crim.App.atNashville,June12,1992).Theappellant,intheinstantcase,failedtospecifythenatureoftheamendment.Moreover,thereisnoevidencethatthetrialcourtabuseditsdiscretionbynotgrantingtheappellant'smotiontoamend.Thisissueiswithoutmerit.̜@ III.ApplicationofStateLawtoHabeasCorpusProceeding  Theappellantarguesthatheisentitledtohavefederallawgovernhisstatewritforhabeascorpusrelief.Specifically,hecontendsthat"[t]oprevailonaclaimforhabeascorpus,[a]stateprisonermustshowthathisdetentionviolatestheConstitution,aFederalstatute,ortreaty."Clearly,theappellantisattemptingtoexpandthescopeofhabeascorpusinTennesseetothatwhichappliesinthefederalcourts.See28U.S.C.S.Sec.2241etseq.
