Inappealinghissentence,thedefendantcontendsthatitwasexcessiveasaresultoftheimproperapplicationofenhancingfactorsandthefailuretoapplymitigatingfactors.Wehavereviewedtherecordandfindnoerrorinthesentencesetbythetrialjudge.  ThereisnotranscriptofthetrialandthereforetheonlyevidencebearingonthesentencingissuesiscontainedinthetranscriptofthesentencinghearingandthepresentencereportfiledbytheDepartmentofCorrection.Itappearsthatthekillingaroseoutofadrugtransactionbetweenthedefendantandthevictim.Therecordindicatesthatthevictimwasstabbedfourteentimesanddiedϐfourweekslaterfromthesestabwounds.Therecordalsoestablishesthatatthetimeofthestabbingthevictimwasrobbedofhismotorvehicle.  Witnesseswereofferedatthesentencinghearingonbehalfofthedefendantwhotestifiedtotheeffectthatthedefendantwasagoodfamilymanwhoownedhisownroofingbusinessandwasagoodproviderforhiswifeandhisstepchildren.Thepresentencereport,however,indicatesthatthedefendantowesbackchildsupportforhisownchildintheamountoftwentyfourthousandtwohundredelevendollarsandeightycents($24,211.80).  Thepresentencereportalsoindicatesthatthedefendanthadbeenpreviouslyconvictedofatleasttwodrugoffenses,fourchargesofreceivingstolenproperty,petitlarceny,andaburglarychargethatwasreducedtoamisdemeanor.Thedefendant,whowasthirtysixyearsofageatthetimeofpreparationofthereport,admittedtoperiodicuseofmarijuanaandtohavingpurchasedcrackcocaineonaregularbasisfromthevictimforhisownuseoverthepastyear.Inaddition,thedefendantadmittedtohavingbeenundertheinfluenceofcrackcocaineatthetimeofthecommissionofthisoffense.  Thetrialcourtfoundthatthedefendanthadasignificantpriorrecord,thathehadtreatedthevictimwithexceptionalcrueltyandthathehademployedadeadlyweaponinthecommissionoftheoffense.SeeT.C.A.4035114(1),(5),(9).Thetrialcourtfurtherfoundthattherewerenoapplicablemitigatingfactors.  Whenadefendantcomplainsofhisorhersentence,wemustconductadenovoreviewwithapresumptionofcorrectness.T.C.A.4035401(d).Theburdenofshowingthatthesentenceisimproperisupontheappealingparty.T.C.A.4035401(d)SentencingCommissionComments.Thispresumption,however,"isconditionedupontheaffirmativeshowingintherecordthatthetrialcourtconsideredthesentencingprinciplesandallrelevantfactsandcircumstances."Statev.Ashby,823S.W.2d166,169(Tenn.1991).  AportionoftheSentencingReformActof1989,codifiedatT.C.A.4035210,establishedanumberofspecificprocedurestobefollowedinsentencing.Thissectionmandatesthecourt'sconsiderationofthefollowing:     `  X)(1)Theevidence,ifany,receivedatthetrialandthesentencinghearing;(2)[t]hepresentencereport;(3)[t]heprinciplesofsentencingandargumentsastosentencingalternatives;(4)[t]henatureandcharacteristicsofthecriminalconductinvolved;(5)[e]videnceandinformationofferedbythepartiesontheenhancementandmitigatingfactorsin4035113and4035114;and(6)[a]nystatementthedefendantwishestomakeinhisownbehalfaboutsentencing.    T.C.A.4035210.         Inaddition,thissectionprovidesthattheminimumsentencewithintherangeisthepresumptivesentence.Ifthereareenhancingandmitigatingfactors,thecourtmuststartattheminimumsentenceintherangeandenhancethesentenceasappropriatefortheenhancementfactorsandthenreducethesentencewithintherangeasappropriateforthemitigatingfactors.Iftherearenomitigatingfactors,thecourtmaysetthesentenceabovetheminimuminthatrangebutstillwithintherange.Theweighttobegiveneachfactorislefttothediscretionofthetrialjudge.Statev.Shelton,854S.W.2d116,123(Tenn.Crim.App.1992).  TheActfurtherprovidesthat"[w]heneverthecourtimposesasentence,itshallplaceontherecordeitherorallyorinwriting,whatenhancementormitigatingfactorsitfound,ifany,aswellasfindingsoffactasrequiredby4035209."T.C.A.4035210(f)(emphasisadded).Becauseoftheimportanceofenhancingandmitigatingfactorsunderthesentencingguidelines,eventheabsenceofthesefactorsmustberecordedifnonearefound.T.C.A.4035210comment.Thesefindingsbythetrialjudgemustberecordedinordertoallowanadequatereviewonappeal.  OurreviewoftherecordindicatesthatthetrialjudgefollowedtheproceduresrequiredbytheSentencingReformAct.Heobviouslyconsideredthenatureandcharacteristicsofthecriminalconductwhenhefoundthatthedefendanthadtreatedthevictimwithexceptionalcruelty.Ourreviewoftherecordconcerningthenumerousstabwoundsinflictedonthevictimsupportstheapplicationofthisfactor.Althoughthedefendantcontendsotherwise,weagreealsothatthedefendant'spriorcriminalrecordissignificantandobviouslyadeadlyweaponwasemployedinthecommissionofthisoffense.  Thedefendantcontendsthathiscriminalhistoryisnotsignificantandthathehasnohistoryofviolentacts.Ourreviewoftherecordsupportsthetrialjudge'sfindingthatnostatutorymitigatingfactorsexisted.
