I.BACKGROUND  @   ` TherecordindicatesthatthetrialjudgewhoacceptedAppellantsguiltypleaonSeptember10,1991,wasJudgeRandallE.Nichols.Thatsameday,JudgeNicholssentencedAppellantasaRangeIstandardoffendertoatermoffouryearsintheTennesseeDepartmentofCorrection( TDOC).Althoughtherecordisnotclear,JudgeNicholsapparentlydecidedtopostponetheentryofjudgmentuntilAppellantswifecouldrecoverfromastrokesufficientlytocareforthecoupleschildrenwhileAppellantwasinconfinement.JudgeNicholssubsequentlyresignedhisjudicialofficetobecometheKnoxCountyDistrictAttorneyGeneral. OnSeptember24,1992,JudgeRichardR.Baumgartner  P orderedAppellanttoservesixtydaysofhissentenceinconfinementfollowedbytheremainderofthefouryearsonprobation. ` OnJanuary11,1995,JudgeBaumgartnerplacedAppellantinCAPPbecausehehadfailedtocomplywiththeconditionsofhisprobation.Indoingso,JudgeBaumgartnerstated:0 `  Now,understandasItold"asItelleveryone,oneofthepowersthattheCourthasin"inthesekindsofreferralsisifyouarerevokedforamaterialviolationoftheprogram,notonlycanyoursentencebeimposeduponyou,butitcanbeincreased.AndIroutinelyincreasesentenceswithintherangethatIampermittedtodothat.Soyoucancountonthefactthatifyouendupbeingrevokedfrom[CAPP],notonlywillyouhaveyouroriginalsentence,butyouwillhaveanadditionalsentencetogoalongwiththat. ` T$` T$ 0 `    .... ` T$` T$ 0 `  Sotakethisopportunity,Mr.Miller,to"togetyourselfstraQPghtenedPQRightenedRSitenedSTToutandseeifyoucanmakesomeprogressbecauseifyoudont,youcancountonthefactthatyoulldothemostamountoftimethatIcanimposeuponyouasaviolatoroftheprogram.PPO O902` T$` T$  ` TherecordindicatesthatJudgeBaumgartnerpresidedandGeneralNicholsrepresentedtheStateatAppellantsCAPPrevocationhearingonApril13,1995.TamelaWheelertestifiedatthehearingthatshewasAppellantsCAPPsupervisor.Wheelertestifiedthatafteronlytwomonthsintheprogram,Appellanthadfailedtoattendclasses,hadfailedtorespondtoWheelersphonecallsandletters,andhadfailedtotakeadrugtestdespitebeinggiventwoopportunitiestodoso.Appellantadmittedthathehadmissedsomemeetings.However,AppellanttestifiedthathebelievedthattheCAPPadministratorswouldbesomewhatlenient.Afterlisteningtothetestimony,JudgeBaumgartnerrevokedAppellantsparticipationinCAPPandorderedAppellanttoserveatermofsixyearsinTDOC.@! II.ASSISTANCEOFCOUNSEL  "0  ` Appellantcontendsthatthepostconvictioncourterredwhenitdeterminedthathehadreceivedeffectiveassistanceofcounsel.Specifically,Appellantcontendsthathistrialcounselwasineffectivebecause(a)counselfailedtoinformhimthatifhedidnotcomplywiththeCAPPrequirements,hewouldgotoprisonandhecouldreceiveanincreasedsentence;and(b)counselfailedtoappealtheimpositionoftheincreasedsentenceaftertheCAPPrevocation. ` Whenapetitionerseekspost-convictionreliefonthebasisofineffectiveassistanceofcounsel,heorshemustfirstestablishthattheservicesrenderedortheadviWcWXsXegivenwasbelow therangeofcompetencedemandedofattorneysincriminalcases.Baxterv.Rose,523S.W.2d930,936(Tenn.1975).Second, 902 heorshemustshowthatthedeficiencies actuallyhadanadverseeffectonthedefense.Stricklandv.Washington,466U.S.668,693,104S.Ct.2052, P  2067!68,80L.Ed.2d674(1984). Becauseapetitionermustestablishbothprongsofthetesttoprevailonaclaimofineffectiveassistanceofcounsel,failuretoproveeitherdeficientperformanceorresultingprejudiceprovidesasufficientbasistodenyreliefontheclaim.Henleyv.State,960S.W.2d572,580(Tenn.   1997). Indeed,acourtneednotaddressthecomponentsinanyparticularorderorevenaddressbothifthedefendantmakesaninsufficientshowingofonecomponent.Id. Moreover,onappeal,thefindingsoffactmadebythetrial  courtareconclusiveandwillnotbedisturbedunlesstheevidencecontainedintherecordpreponderatesagainstthem.Adkinsv.State,911S.W.2d334,347 ` (Tenn.Crim.App.1994).
