TwooftheforgeriesoccurredinJanuaryof1995,whenthedefendantalteredtheamountonhispayrollcheckfromTemporaries,Inc.Inthefirstinstance,hechangedtheamountfrom$219.68to$319.68; +   ׀inthesecond,hechangedtheamountfrom$81.04to$281.04.TheotherfiveforgeriesoccurredafewmonthslaterwhenthedefendantinterceptedaninsurancecheckfromGrangeMutualInsuranceCompanyandalteredthechecktoshowhimselfasthepayee.Hethenmadecopiesofthealteredcheck,passingforgedchecksforamountsof$283.00,$224.00,$184.00,$354.00,and$145.00.Thedefendantexplainedthathecommittedthelastfiveforgeriesbecausehehadlosthisjobandneededtosupporthisfamily.  Thepresentencereportestablishedthatthedefendanthadfiftyoneconvictionsforforgeryin1994,theoffensesoccurringthroughout1993.Hereceivedaneffectivesentenceoftenyearsandwasapparentlyonsomeformofreleasewhenhecommittedthesesevenoffenses.Duetoabirthdefect,thedefendanthasonlyonearm.Twentynineyearsoldatthetimeofsentencing,thedefendantcompletedeleventhgrade.Hisemploymenthistoryissporadic.  Whenthereisachallengetothelength,range,ormannerofserviceofasentence,itisthedutyofthiscourttoconductadenovoreviewwithapresumptionthatthedeterminationsmadebythetrialcourtarecorrect.Tenn.CodeAnn.4035401(d).Thispresumptionis"conditionedupontheaffirmativeshowingintherecordthatthetrialcourtconsideredthesentencingprinciplesandallrelevantfactsandcircumstances."Statev.Ashby,823S.W.2d166,169(Tenn.1991).TheSentencingCommissionCommentsprovidethattheburdenisonthedefendanttoshowtheimproprietyofthesentence.  Ourreviewrequiresananalysisof(1)theevidence,ifany,receivedatthetrialandsentencinghearing;(2)thepresentencereport;(3)theprinciplesofsentencingandtheargumentsofcounselrelativetosentencingalternatives;(4)thenatureandcharacteristicsoftheoffense;(5)anymitigatingorenhancingfactors;(6)anystatementsmadebythedefendantinhisownbehalf;and(7)thedefendant'spotentialforrehabilitationortreatment.Tenn.CodeAnn.4035102,103,and210;Statev.Smith,735S.W.2d859,863(Tenn.Crim.App.1987).  Amongthefactorsapplicabletothedefendant'sapplicationforprobationarethecircumstancesoftheoffense,thedefendant'scriminalrecord,socialhistory,andpresentcondition,andthedeterrenteffectuponandbestinterestofthedefendantandthepublic.Statev.Grear,568S.W.2d285,286(Tenn.1978).  EspeciallymitigatedorstandardoffendersconvictedofClassC,D,orEfeloniesarepresumedtobefavorablecandidates"foralternativesentencingoptionsintheabsenceofevidencetothecontrary."Tenn.CodeAnn.4035102(6).Withcertainstatutoryexceptions,noneofwhichapplyhere,probationmustbeautomaticallyconsideredbythetrialcourtifthesentenceimposediseightyearsorless.Tenn.CodeAnn.4035303(a),(b).  Alternativesentencingissuesmustbedeterminedbythefactsandcircumstancesoftheindividualcase.Statev.Moss,727S.W.2d229,235(Tenn.1986)."[E]achcasemustbebottomeduponitsownfacts."Statev.Taylor,744S.W.2d919,922(Tenn.Crim.App.1987).   Here,thedefendanthasobviouslyfailedtoovercomethepresumptivecorrectnessoftherulinginthetrialcourt.SeeTenn.CodeAnn.4035401(d).Hislengthypriorrecordfullywarrantedthedenialofprobation.SeeTenn.CodeAnn.4035103(1)(A).Whilethedefendantistechnicallyeligibleforprobationduetoasentenceoflessthaneightyears,thereisnopresumptionthataCareerOffenderisafavorablecandidateforprobation.SeeTenn.CodeAnn.4035102(6)."[T]heburdenofestablishingsuitabilityforprobationrestswiththedefendant."Tenn.CodeAnn.4035303(b).Thedefendanthasfailedtomeetthisburden.̀  Accordingly,thejudgmentisaffirmed.     ________________________________________     GaryR.Wade,JudgeCONCUR:___________________________WilliamM.Barker,Judge___________________________CurwoodWitt,Judgè
