CCX  Inthisappealofright,thesoleissuepresentedforreviewiswhetherthetrialcourterredbyorderingthesentencestobeservedconsecutively.Wefindnoerrorandaffirmthejudgment.       CCX  EachrapeoccurredbetweenJulyandDecemberof1993atthehomeofthedefendant.TherewerethreeseparatesexualpenetrationsofAD H   ;threesexualpenetrationsofBS;onesexualpenetrationofVB,thedaughterofthedefendant;andonesexualpenetrationofLG.Theagesofthevictimswerebetweensixandeleven.InaccordancewithTenn.CodeAnn.3913523,thedefendantisrequiredtoservetheentiresentenceundiminishedbyanyreductioncredits.       CCX  Duringthecourseoftheinvestigation,thedefendantgaveastatementtothepolice.Audiotaperecordingsweretranscribedandintroducedasevidenceatthesentencinghearing.Thedefendantclaimedtoauthoritiesthattheyounggirlsinitiatedthesexualcontact.Hecontendedthathisfingersandpeniswouldaccidentallyslipinsideonlybecausethevictim'sstateofarousalincludedvaginalsecretions.Thedefendantclaimedthathetriedtorebufftheiradvancesbut,duetothenumberofgirlsinvolved,wasunabletophysicallyresist.     `  Anunalteredstatementwrittenbythedefendantappearsinthepresentencereport: `  X X `  `   Iamvarydeeplysadenandhurtfromthethangsthathastakenplace.Ididn'thaveachance....IwastookadvandageoffromthepeoplethatinvestgatedthiscasebecauseIwasgoingthroughalotofemotionalstress,griefandsufferedfromdepression....IwaspromisedtogethelpbutwhenItalkedtothemtheydidn'tunderstandthatthethings(saidabove)iswhatblindedmefrombeingmoreresponsible....ToesethestressbutallitdidwastogivethosekidsawaytotakeadvandageofmeandI'msorrysosorry....NobodycareshowbadIfeelaboutthis.TheonlythingIdidwaslaywiththemtowatchmoviesIrented.Nothingwasn'tmenttohappen....Irealydon'tknowwhatexactlyhappenedbecauseIwasasleepandbeenondrugsandnotfullyconscienceandmixtedupwithdreamsandpastthingsbutIcan'tdeniethefactsthatIbecauseIwaslyingthereandmayhavebeenupclosetomebutwasn'tlikethisallthetime....Twoofthegirls...provokedthethingsthathappened.ItsnotfairthatItouchthatdidn'tmeantoandIbetouched3times...andI'minthismuchtroubletheydidthiswhenIwasasleep....Themkidsknowwhatisrightandwrongbutitwasthewaythaywasbroughtupmyownkidsknowwhatisrightandwrong....IknowtherewassomethingsIcouldn'thavedonebuteverybodymakesstupidmistakes.Thishasbeenbloweduptofareandatobigapricetopay....I'mnotsexcrazedforyounggirls.ItjustwasabadtimebutIdidn'tseeitandrealynoticeit.Thisisaboutonesidednobodydidn'tunderstandmeatallwithalltheproblemsIbeensuffering....Ididn'thurtanyoneforlifeornothing. `  X  4  X    `  X X `  `       Thedefendanthadtwopriorconvictionsforcontributingtothedelinquencyofaminorandtwoforindecentexposure.Asaresultoftheseoffenses,hehadreceivedasuspendedsentence,finesandmandatorycounseling. `  X  4  X     CCX  Inexchangefortheguiltypleasinthiscase,thestateagreedtodismisseighteenothercountsintheindictmentinvolvingrapeofachildandsexualbattery.Beforethesentencinghearing,thestatefillednoticeoffourenhancingfactors.Thedefendantfilednoticeoffivemitigatingfactors.Atthesentencinghearing,themothersoftwoofthevictimstestifiedabouttheeffectstheincidentshadontheirdaughters.ThemotherofBStestifiedthatherdaughterbecameaggressiveafterthesexualabusebegan;shewasfearful,wouldcryoften,andbegantowetherbed.Eachofthemothersclaimedthattherapehadanadverseemotionalimpactontherestofthefamily.ThemotherofADtestifiedthatherdaughterhadtosleepwithher,criedcontinuouslyand,duringemotionaloutbursts,purportedtohateherselfandothers.EvidenceindicatedthatADblamedherselfforthecrimes.Shewillapparentlyrequireseveralyearsofcounseling;herparentshadmaritalproblemsafterlearningoftherapes.       CCX  Thedefendantcontendsthatthetrialcourterredbyorderingthreeofthesentencestobeservedconsecutively.Whenthereisachallengetothelength,range,ormannerofserviceofasentence,itisthedutyofthiscourttoconductadenovoreviewwithapresumptionthatthedeterminationsmadebythetrialcourtarecorrect.Tenn.CodeAnn.4035401(d).Thispresumptionis"conditionedupontheaffirmativeshowingintherecordthatthetrialcourtconsideredthesentencingprinciplesandallrelevantfactsandcircumstances."Statev.Ashby,823S.W.2d166,169(Tenn.1991);seeStatev.Jones,883S.W.2d597(Tenn.1994).TheSentencingCommissionCommentsprovidethattheburdenisonthedefendanttoshowtheimproprietyofthesentence.       CCX  Ourreviewrequiresananalysisof(1)theevidence,ifanyreceivedatthetrialandsentencinghearing;(2)thepresentencereport;(3)theprinciplesofsentencingandtheargumentsofcounselrelativetosentencingalternatives;(4)thenatureandcharacteristicsoftheoffense;(5)anymitigatingorenhancingfactors;(6)anystatementsmadebythedefendantinhisownbehalf;and(7)thedefendant'spotentialforrehabilitationortreatment.Tenn.CodeAnn.4035102,103,and210;Statev.Smith,735S.W.2d859,863(Tenn.Crim.App.1987).      PriortotheenactmentoftheCriminalSentencingReformActof1989,thelimitedclassificationsfortheimpositionofconsecutivesentencesweresetoutinGrayv.State,538S.W.2d391,393(Tenn.1976).Inthatcaseoursupremecourtruledthataggravatingcircumstancesmustbepresentbeforeplacementinanyoneoftheclassifications.Later,inStatev.Taylor,739S.W.2d227(Tenn.1987),thecourtestablishedanadditionalcategoryforthosedefendantsconvictedoftwoormorestatutoryoffensesinvolvingsexualabuseofminors.Therewere,however,additionalwordsofcaution:"[C]onsecutivesentencesshouldnotroutinelybeimposed...and...theaggregatemaximumofconsecutivetermsmustbereasonablyrelatedtotheseverityoftheoffensesinvolved."Statev.Taylor,739S.W.2dat230.TheSentencingCommissionCommentsadoptedthecautionarylanguage.Tenn.CodeAnn.4035115.The1989Actis,inessence,thecodificationoftheholdingsinGrayandTaylor;consecutivesentencesmaybeimposedinthediscretionofthetrialcourtonlyuponadeterminationthatoneormoreofthefollowingcriteria I   ׀exist:% - &  `  `   8 8 (1)Thedefendantisaprofessionalcriminalwhohasknowinglydevotedhimselftocriminalactsasamajorsourceoflivelihood;& 4  X       &  `  `   8 8 (2)Thedefendantisanoffenderwhoserecordofcriminalactivityisextensive;&       &  `  `   8 8 (3)Thedefendantisadangerousmentallyabnormalpersonsodeclaredbyacompetentpsychiatristwhoconcludesasaresultofaninvestigationpriortosentencingthatthedefendant'scriminalconducthasbeencharacterizedbyapatternofrepetitiveorcompulsivebehaviorwithheedlessindifferencetoconsequences;&       &  `  `   8 8 (4)Thedefendantisadangerousoffenderwhosebehaviorindicateslittleornoregardforhumanlife,andnohesitationaboutcommittingacrimeinwhichtherisktohumanlifeishigh; &       &  `  `   8 8 (5)Thedefendantisconvictedoftwo(2)ormorestatutoryoffensesinvolvingsexualabuseofaminorwithconsiderationoftheaggravatingcircumstancesarisingfromtherelationshipbetweenthedefendantandvictimorvictims,thetimespanofdefendant'sundetectedsexualactivity,thenatureandscopeofthesexualactsandtheextentoftheresidual,physicalandmentaldamagetothevictimorvictims;&       &  `  `   8 8 (6)Thedefendantissentencedforanoffensecommittedwhileonprobation;&       &  `  `   8 8 (7)Thedefendantissentencedforcriminalcontempt.&       &  `  `      Tenn.CodeAnn.4035115(b).&         CCX  InGray,oursupremecourtruledthatbeforeconsecutivesentencingcouldbeimposeduponthedangerousoffender,asnowdefinedbysubsection(b)(4)inthestatute,otherconditionsmustbepresent:(a)thatthecrimesinvolvedaggravatingcircumstances;(b)thatconsecutivesentencesareanecessarymeanstoprotectthepublicfromthedefendant;and(c)thatthetermreasonablyrelatestotheseverityoftheoffenses.       CCX  Morerecently,inStatev.Wilkerson,905S.W.2d933,938(Tenn.1995),ourhighcourtreaffirmedthoseprinciples,holdingthatconsecutivesentencescannotberequiredofthedangerousoffender"unlessthetermsreasonablyrelatetotheseverityoftheoffensescommittedandarenecessaryinordertoprotectthepublic(society)fromfurthercriminalactsbythosepersonswhoresorttoaggravatedcriminalconduct."TheWilkersondecision,whichmodifiedsomewhatthestrictfactualguidelinesforconsecutivesentencingadoptedinStatev.Woods,814S.W.2d378,380(Tenn.Crim.App.1991),describedsentencingasa"humanprocessthatneithercannorshouldbereducedtoasetoffixedandmechanicalrules."Statev.Wilkerson,905S.W.2dat938.       CCX  Tosummarize,inadditiontofittingintooneofthesevenstatutorilymandatedclassifications,therecordmustalsoestablishthattheaggregatesentencereasonablyrelatestotheseverityoftheoffensesandthetotalsentenceisnecessaryfortheprotectionofthepublicfromfurthercrimesbythedefendants.Statev.Wilkerson,905S.W.2dat938;Grayv.State,538S.W.2dat392.Therecordmustshowthatthesentencingprinciplesandallrelevantfactsandcircumstanceswereconsideredbeforethepresumptionofcorrectnessapplies.       CCX  Here,thedefendantwasconvictedoftwoormorestatutoryoffensesinvolvingsexualabuseofaminor.Inimposingconsecutivesentences,thetrialcourtgavespecialconsiderationtotherelationshipbetweenthedefendantandvictimofthecrimes,thetimespanoftheundetectedsexualactivities,thenatureandscopeofthesexualacts,andtheextentoftheresidual,physical,andmentaldamagetothevictims.Whenadefendantfallswithinthestatutoryclassificationsforeligibilitytobeconsideredforconsecutivesentencing,theonlyremainingconsiderationsarewhether(1)thesentencesarenecessaryinordertoprotectthepublicfromfurthermisconductbythedefendantand(2)"thetermsarereasonablyrelatedtotheseverityoftheoffenses."Statev.Wilkerson,905S.W.2dat938.       CCX  Becausethetrialcourtconsideredtheappropriatefactors,thejudgmentisentitledtothepresumptionofcorrectness.Inourview,therecordsupportstheimpositionofconsecutivesentences.Thedefendanthasshownlittleremorse.Hehasblamedyouthfulvictimsforhisunlawfulconduct.Thedefendantportrayedthevictimsingraphicdetailasthesexualaggressors.Hisfailuretoacceptresponsibilitysuggestsalackofamenabilityforrehabilitation.Thatthedefendantcontinuedhiscrimesforsuchalongperiodlendscredencetothetrialcourt'sdeterminationthatthepublicrequiredprotection.Furthermisconductappearstobelikelyunlessthedefendantisincarcerated.Oneoftherapevictimswassixyearsoldandanotherwashisowndaughter.Inourview,thesentenceisreasonablyrelatedtotheseverityoftheoffenses.
