Ms.Pickettwasworried ` aboutherbrother,soshetookhimtotheirmothershousetocalmhimdown. #X:XXX:Ġ2#X:XXX:Thenexttimeshesaw F himwasatthesceneofthewreckafterthewreckoccurred. #X:XXX:4#X:XXX: Shethoughthelooked likehewason , something. Finally,Ms.Picketttestifiedthatthedefendantexpressedremorseforthecollosion.     ShaundraHilltestifiedthatshewasthemotherofthreeofthedefendantschildren,noneof  whomwereinvolvedintheaccident. Ms.Hilltestifiedthatthedefendantwasagoodfathertoward  herchildren. Shealsotestifiedthatshewasnotawarethatthedefendantuseddrugsoralcohol. Ms. t Hillthoughtthatthedefendantwasremorsefulabouttheaccident,andthathehadbeenrehabilitated Z sincethewreck.  @   Testifyinginhisownbehalfthedefendantadmittedtohavingafairlylengthycriminalrecord &v asajuvenile,includingavoluntarymanslaughtercharge. Healsoadmittedbeingconvictedof  \ assaultafterhewasanadult. Headmittedusingcocaineforafewmonthsbeforethecollosion. The  defendanthadabadreactiontothedrugs. Thedefendantssistertookhimtohismothershouse,   andhefeltbetterafterdrinkingsomewarmmilk. Thenextmorning,October18,1997,the p!  defendantborrowedhisstepfatherstruck andwenttoseehischildrenattheirgrandmothershouse. V"!  Whenhegotthere,thechildrensgrandmothertoldthedefendantthattheyhadgottengoodreport <#" cards,sothedefendantdecidedtotakethechildrenshopping. Heputallfivechildrenintheback "$r# ofthetruck,andtookafriendtotheliquorstore. Afterthedefendantdroppedhisfriendoff,heput %X $ thechildreninthefrontofthetruckandcontinueddriving. Whilehewasdrivingthechildren,the %>!% defendantlitacigarette. Ashe #X:XXX:ę:#X:XXX:litthecigarette,hebegantofeellikehedidwhenhehadthebad &$"& reactiontothecocaine. #X:XXX:"?#X:XXX: Then,asthedefendantapproachedanintersection,hesawthatthetraffic ' #' lightwasyellow,sohespedup. Thedefendantestimatedthathewasdrivingaboutfifty(50)miles (#( perhourwhenhedrovethroughtheintersection. HesawMs.Haagasvanatthelastminuteand )$) couldnotavoidhittingher.  l*%*   Afterthecollision,thedefendantwokeuplyingontheground. Tenn.CodeAnn.4035115(b)(4)allowsthetrialcourttoimposeconsecutivesentencingif [t]he  defendantisadangerousoffenderwhosebehaviorindicateslittleornoregardforhumanlife,and | nohesitationaboutcommittingacrimeinwhichtherisktohumanlifeishigh[.]#X:XXX:ĊS#X:XXX:Here,the b circumstancesoftheoffenseclearlysatisfythestatutorylanguage.Despitenumerousdriving H offenses,thedefendant,anunlicenseddriver,putfivechildreninthetruckandspeddownabusy . ~ street.Heignoredaredlightandcrashedintoanothervehicle,killingachildandinjuringeveryone  d elseinvolved.Furthermore,asapoliceofficertriedtosaveachildslife,thedefendantmerelystood  J by,screamedthathedidnotcareaboutthechildren,andthatthepolicecouldnotarresthim.The  0 defendantsbehaviorevidencedlittleregardforhumanlife,andthetrialcourtcouldhavefoundthat    thedefendanthadnohesitationaboutcommittingacrimeinwhichtherisktohumanlifewashigh.      However,beforeorderingconsecutivesentencesbasedonafindingthatthedefendantisa   dangerousoffender,thesentencingcourtisalsorequiredtodeterminewhethertheconsecutive x  sentences(1)arereasonablyrelatedtotheseverityoftheoffensescommitted;(2)servetoprotect ^  thepublicfromfurthercriminalconductbytheoffender;and(3)arecongruentwithgeneral D  principlesofsentencing.Statev.Lane,3S.W.3d456,461(Tenn.1999);Statev..Wilkerson,905 *z  S.W.2d933,939(Tenn.1995).Inthiscase,thecourtfoundthat,giventhecircumstancesofthe ` offense, togive[thedefendant]anythinglessthan[thesentenceimposed]wouldbeatravesty.
