ñœñ9 ñCommunity€Correctionsñ9 ñ›ñ9 ñ€program.ÌÌà Œ àà ä àWe€affirm€the€judgment€of€the€trial€court.ÌÌà Œ àà ä ࢣOn€May€4,€1995,€the€seventeen„year„old€defendant€gave€birth€to€aÏson.€€She€delivered€the€baby€at€her€boyfriend's€parents'€trailer€without€any€medicalÏassistance.€€After€the€baby€was€born,€the€defendant's€boyfriend,€William€Stockwell,Ïwho€was€the€father,€buried€the€infant€near€a€barn.€€The€defendant,€who€hadÏpreviously€agreed€to€dispose€of€the€child€so€that€no€one€would€discover€she€hadÏbeen€pregnant,€ñ9 ñœñ9 ñlater€claimedñ9 ñ›ñ9 ñ€ñ9 ñœñ9 ñthatñ9 ñ›ñ9 ñ€she€had€changed€her€mind€during€labor€and€askedÏto€be€taken€to€the€hospital.€€Stockwell€was€convicted€of€first„degree€murder€andÏreceived€a€life€sentence.€€The€defendant€testified€as€a€witness€for€the€state.€€€€ÌÌà Œ àà ä àAt€the€sentencing€hearing,€Dr.€Jeri€Lee€testified€that€he€had€examinedÏthe€defendant€about€two€weeks€after€she€had€given€birth.€€He€found€that€sheÏsuffered€from€post€traumatic€stress€disorder€(P.T.S.D.),€which€resulted€from€theÏtrauma€associated€with€unattended€childbirth€and€the€death€of€the€victim.€€HeÏdescribed€the€symptoms€of€P.T.S.D.€as€distress€and€depression.€€Dr.€Lee€alsoÏdetermined€the€defendant€suffered€from€dependent€personality€disorder,€the€primaryÏsymptom€of€which€is€"chronic€and€severe€problem[s]€making€decisions."€€IndividualsÏwho€suffer€from€this€disorder€rely€on€other€people€to€"make€their€decisions€for€them."ÏDr.€Lee€testified€that€the€defendant€would€be€able€to€abide€by€the€terms€of€anÏalternative€sentence€and€would€not€be€a€threat€to€society.€€It€was€his€opinion€that€sheÐ $8Ä.4 Ðcould€benefit€from€counseling€and€would€be€a€good€candidate€for€treatment.€€ÌÌà Œ àà ä àThe€defendant,€who€lived€with€her€parents,€was€sixteen€years€old€atÏthe€time€she€became€pregnant.€€Stockwell€was€twenty„two.€€Since€the€offense,€sheÏhad€graduated€from€high€school€and€ñ9 ñœñ9 ñhadñ9 ñ›ñ9 ñ€been€seeking€employment.€€The€defendantÏacknowledged€that€a€condition€of€her€pre„trial€release€was€that€she€disassociateÏherself€from€Stockwell.€€Despite€that€promise,€however,€she€had€married€StockwellÏand€ñ9 ñœñ9 ñhadñ9 ñ›ñ9 ñ€ñ9 ñœñ9 ñgiven€birth€to€their€secñ3 ñoñ3 ñndñ9 ñ›ñ9 ñ€child.€€At€the€time€of€sentencing,€a€divorce€wasÏpending.€€Her€parents€were€to€get€custody€of€her€son€in€the€event€of€a€Department€ofÏCorrection€sentence.€€ÌÌà Œ àà ä àJohn€Johnson,€principal€at€Watertown€High€School,€described€theÏdefendant€as€an€excellent€student€and€stated€that€she€did€not€present€any€disciplineÏproblems.€€Judy€Murphy,€the€defendant's€mother,€testified€that€the€defendant€couldÏcontinue€to€live€with€her.€€She€and€the€defendant's€father€agreed€to€help€theÏdefendant€meet€the€terms€of€an€alternative€sentence.€€ÌÌà Œ àà ä àThe€trial€court€made€the€following€ruling:ÌÒXÒÒä
