The petitioner pled nolo contendere to a charge of murder in the first degree and received a life sentence without parole. On appeal, he asserts that he did not understand the terms of his plea and that his trial counsel was ineffective. We AFFIRM the trial courtРРs order denying the petition. ааУ УааBACKGROUNDФ Ф ааг ‚X гааOn August 29, 1996, the petitioner entered a plea of nolo contendere to a charge of murder in the first degree. He then filed a petition for postЉconviction relief asserting ineffective assistance of counsel. Appointed counsel subsequently amended that petition. On June 26, 1997, the trial court held a hearing in consideration of this petition. The petitioner, his father, and his trial counsel, Steve Stack and Shipp Weems, testified. After the hearing, the trial court denied the petition. г ‚X г г ‚X гAt the postЉconviction relief hearing, the petitioner testified that his trial counsel guaranteed him Special Needs placement if he entered the plea of nolo contendere.
