FACTS      ` Thedefendantwasanacquaintanceofthevictims,GaryColeandCarolLiehr,forseveralmonths.Onthedateinquestion,thedefendantappearedatColeshomeuninvited.Thevictimstestifiedthedefendanthadabeerinhishandandappearedtobeintoxicated.Thedefendantmadesome inappropriateremarks,andColeaskedhimtoleave.Thedefendantbecameupsetandleft. ` LiehraskedColetolockthedoorsasshewasafraidthedefendantwouldreturn.Shortlythereafter,thedefendantreappearedwithashotgun.Thedefendantkickedinadoorandenteredthehouse.Cole,whohadarmedhimselfwithaweapon,confrontedthedefendant.Liehrwentintoanotherroomandcalled911.ThedefendantaimedhisweaponatColeandtoldhimhewouldnotlivethroughthenight.Coleeventuallyloweredhisweapon,yetthedefendantrefusedtodothesame.ThedefendantsubsequentlyobservedLiehrusingthetelephone.Hepointedhisweaponatherandtoldherhewouldkillherifshedidnothangupthephone.Thedefendantthenleftthehouseanddroveaway. 844:  ` HickmanCountySheriffsDeputyDarrellJacksontestifiedthatheandDeputyGaryTurnerrespondedtothecallatColesresidence.Hestatedthatoneofthedoorstothehouseappearedtohavebeenkickedopen.Theofficerswenttothedefendantshousetoawaitnotificationbythedispatchthatwarrantshadbeenissuedforthedefendantsarrest.Whenthewarrantswereissued,thedeputiesknockedonthedefendantsdoorandinformedhimthathewasunderarrest.Thedefendantrefusedtoaccompanytheofficersandstatedhewouldfightthembecausetheydidnothavethewarrantsintheirpossession.Astruggleensued,culminatinginDeputyJacksonsprayingthedefendantwithachemicalspray.DeputyTurnercorroboratedthetestimonyofDeputyJackson. ` Thedefensepresentednoproofattrial.   SUFFICIENCYOFTHEEVIDENCE     XJXXXJ ` Wheresufficiencyoftheevidenceischallenged,therelevantquestionfor h  anappellatecourtiswhether,afterviewingtheevidenceinthelightmostfavorabletotheprosecution,anyrationaltrieroffactcouldhavefoundtheessentialelementsofthecrimeorcrimesbeyondareasonabledoubt.Tenn.R.App.P.13(e);Jacksonv.Virginia,443U.S.307,319,99S.Ct.2781,2789,61 '#& L.Ed.2d560(1979);Statev.Abrams,935S.W.2d399,401(Tenn.1996).The )$( weightandcredibilityofthewitnesses'testimonyaremattersentrustedexclusivelytothejuryasthetriersoffact.Statev.Brewer,932S.W.2d1,19 P-(, (Tenn.Crim.App.1996);Statev.Sheffield,676S.W.2d542,547(Tenn.1984). A. #XJXXXJղ# 2(.2    ` ThedefendantwasconvictedofaggravatedassaultuponColeandLiehr.Theseconvictionsrequiredthejurytofindthedefendantintentionallyorknowinglydisplayedadeadlyweapon,causingthevictimstoreasonablyfear H:5: imminentbodilyinjury.Tenn.CodeAnn.3913102.ThejuryheardthetestimonyofthevictimsthatthedefendantfirstpointedtheshotgunatColeandthreatenedtokillhim,thenpointedtheweaponatLiehrandthreatenedtokillheraswell. ` Thedefendantwasalsoconvictedofaggravatedburglary.Thisoffenserequiresthejuryfindthedefendant,withoutpermission,enteredColeshomewiththeintentionofcommittinganaggravatedassault.Tenn.CodeAnn.3914403.ThejuryheardthetestimonyofColeandLiehrthatthedefendantkickedinalockeddoortogainentryintoColeshouse.Thejuryalsoheardthetestimonyofthedeputiesthatthedoorappearedtohavebeenkickedopen. ` Thedefendantassertsthathewaswronglyconvictedoftheoffensesabovebecausehewasunabletoformtherequisiteintentduetovoluntaryintoxication.Voluntaryintoxicationitselfisnotadefensetotheseoffenses,butevidenceofintoxicationmaybeintroducedtonegateaculpablementalstate.Tenn.CodeAnn.3911503(a).Herethetrialcourtproperlychargedthejuryastotherelevanceofvoluntaryintoxication.Whetheradefendantistoointoxicatedtoformtherequisitementalstateisaquestionforthejury.Statev. %0!$ Brooks,909S.W.2d854,859(Tenn.Crim.App.1995).Thejuryobviously '#& concludedthedefendantwasnotsointoxicatedastobeunabletoformtherequiredmentalstatefortheseoffenses.TheactionsofthedefendantreturningtoColesresidencewithashotgun,kickingopenthedoortogainentry,aimingthegunatthevictims,andthreateningtokillthemjustifythejurysfinding. ` Thisissueiswithoutmerit.  B.  x616    ` Thedefendantwasfurtherconvictedofintentionallypreventingor 8:5: obstructingknownlawenforcementofficersfromeffectinghisarrestbyusingforceagainstalawenforcementofficer.Tenn.CodeAnn.3916602.Thedeputiestestifiedthatthedefendantrefusedtocooperateandhadtobesprayedwithachemicalagentafteraphysicalaltercation. ` Thedefendantcontendsthatthereisinsufficientevidencetofindthatthedefendantemployedforceinresistingtheofficers. Forcemeanscompulsionbyphysicalpowerorviolenceandistobebroadlyconstrued.Tenn.CodeAnn.3911106(a)(12).Theofficerstestifiedthattheywereforcedto rasslewiththedefendantandultimatelysprayhimwithachemicalagentinordertoeffectthearrest.Theevidenceissufficienttosupportthejurysfinding. ` Thisissueiswithoutmerit.  IMPEACHMENTWITHPRIORCONVICTIONS      ` Thedefendantcontendsthetrialcourtabuseditsdiscretionbyrulingthestatecoulduseapriorfederalbankrobberyconvictionforimpeachmentpurposesifhedecidedtotestify.Thedefendantassertstheprejudicialeffectofthisconvictionwithitsconnotationofviolenceoutweighedanyprobativevalue. ` Whenthestatewishestoimpeachadefendantwithevidenceofapriorconvictionofacrime,itmustcomplywithTenn.R.Evid.609(a)(3).Thisruleallowsthedefendanttoobtainarulingpriortotestifyingontheadmissibilityoftheconvictionandprovidesthatthedefendantneednotactuallytestifyattrialtolaterchallengethetrialcourtsruling.However,thedefendantmustmakeanofferofproofastotheproposedtrialtestimonysothattheappellatecourtcanassesstheimpactofthetrialcourtsruling.Statev.Baxter,938S.W.2d697, 616 703(Tenn.Crim.App.1996);seegenerallyCohen,Sheppeard&Paine, `838 TennesseeLawofEvidence,609.9(3ded.1995). 8:5: Ї ` Thedefendantfailedtomakeanofferofproofastohisproposedtestimony.Weare,therefore,precludedfromassessinganyprejudiceresultingfromthetrialcourtsruling. ` Further,bankrobberyisacrimeinvolvingdishonesty.Priorcrimesinvolvingdishonestyarerelevanttocredibility.SeeTenn.R.Evid.609(a)(2).  8  Themerefactthatitalsoinvolvesviolencedoesnotnecessarilydictateitsinadmissibility.SeeStatev.Blanton,926S.W.2d953,960(Tenn.Crim.App.   1996).Wefindnoabuseofdiscretioninthetrialcourtsauthorizingthispriorconvictionforimpeachment.   %  1      ׀ H  ` Thisissueiswithoutmerit.
