| New Raybin & Perky hot list available |
| David Raybin and Sarah Perky, attorneys in the Nashville office of Hollins, Raybin & Weissman PC, have released a new issue of the Tennessee Supreme Court Hot List, which highlights cases granted review by the Tennessee Supreme Court. In this issue, they write that the court granted review in four cases this week. Two involve the propriety of the intermediate appellate court granting pretrial diversion; one, a civil case, addresses the always-interesting statute of frauds; and the fourth concerns application of the recent medical malpractice amendments to a case refiled after the amendments became effective. |

| Stanton pledges vigilance in prosecutions |
| Ed Stanton, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee, says in an interview with WREG Memphis News Channel 3 that he plans to be just as vigilant as his predecessors in finding and prosecuting criminals. He already has established a new Civil Rights Unit to prosecute hate crimes, health care fraud, financial fraud and human trafficking involving children, saying the latter is "nothing more than modern day slavery." He also talks about the importance of being proactive, especially when it comes to preventing teens from turning to crime. "Part of our jobs is not only in the courtroom, but in the community..." he says.

| Redistricting off to a slow start |
| The Knoxville News Sentinel reports today that legislative leaders will begin collecting public comments on the redistricting process after Labor Day and may not unveil their plans until January. Republicans in charge of redistricting say nothing has been determined yet and the various hypothetical plans put forward by bloggers should be given little credence. One such plan gained enough publicity that U.S. Rep. Jim Cooper, D-Nashville, and Nashville Mayor Karl Dean publicly urged state House Speaker Beth Harwell to block it. The Tennessean covered that development.
