25th Annual TBA Academy


December 14-15 • Washington D.C. at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel

A limited number of Tennessee attorneys this year will experience the honor of being admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court as part of the 25th Annual TBA Academy.

The Tennessee Bar Association has arranged a private Swearing-in Ceremony at the Supreme Court on Monday, Dec. 15. Only a limited number of attorneys will be able to participate in the ceremony and this honor. In addition to the Swearing In Ceremony, participants in the TBA Academy will be invited to a Welcome Reception hosted by TBA President Buck Lewis, breakfast and a tour of the Supreme Court, lunch at a Capitol Hill landmark, and three hours of CLE. A Welcome Dinner on Sunday, Dec. 14, and a Celebration Dinner on Monday, Dec. 15, are optional.

The Basics


Court admissions: To participate in the Admissions Ceremonies at the Supreme Court, you must register for the Academy and complete your admission filings by Monday, Nov. 3, to meet Supreme Court deadlines. CLE: Included in your registration are three hours of CLE. TBA President Buck Lewis will present a one-hour appellate practice program on Monday from 5 to 6 p.m. In addition, attendees will have access to the full TennBarU online catalog for the additional two hours of CLE. If you are unable to attend the live presentation, you may take three hours from the online catalog.

Program: Opens with Reception on Sunday evening, with admission on Monday.

Guests: Bring along a guest to share in the experience. The $125 guest fee covers attendance at the President's Welcome Reception and other activities.

Monday, December 15
7:30 a.m.       Meet in Mayflower hotel lobby
7:45 a.m. Depart in cabs for Supreme Court
8:00 a.m.   Arrive at the U.S. Supreme Court (Maryland Avenu entrance, go through security, proceed to breakfast in the Conference Room located in the Lawyers Lounge)
10:00 a.m. Court convenes with admissions
11:00 a.m.    Group picture on steps of Supreme Court to follow admissions
11:30 a.m. Lunch at The Monocle – A Capitol Hill landmark since 1960, 107 D Street, NE
1:00 p.m.   Tour of U.S. Supreme Court (Group meet at John Marshall statue)
5:00 – 6:00 p.m.  Live CLE with Buck Lewis – Mayflower Hotel
7:00 – 7:30 p.m.    Reception
7:30 p.m. Dinner (Location to be determined, Dutch treat)

Cancellation Policy
Cancellations received up until 4 p.m., Central time three days prior to the seminar will receive a refund, less a $25 administrative fee, unless otherwise noted. There will be no refunds for cancellations received after three days before the seminar. However, a voucher may be requested for use within six months on a future TBA seminar for the value of the seminar, less a $25 administrative fee. This voucher must be attached to the registration for the future seminar, in order to be redeemable.
