26th Annual TBA Academy


December 13-14, 2009 • Washington D.C. at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel

A limited number of Tennessee attorneys this year will experience the honor of being admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court as part of the 26th Annual TBA Academy.

The Tennessee Bar Association has arranged a private Swearing-In Ceremony at the U.S. Supreme Court on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009. Only a limited number of attorneys will be able to participate in the ceremony and this honor. In addition to the Swearing-In Ceremony, participants in the TBA Academy will be invited to a Welcome Reception and Dinner on Sunday, Dec. 13 — hosted by TBA President Gail Vaughn Ashworth — a breakfast and a tour of the Supreme Court, and a Celebration Luncheon at a Capitol Hill landmark after the Swearing-In Ceremony on Monday, Dec. 14.


The Basics


Court admissions: To participate in the Admissions Ceremonies at the Supreme Court, you must register for the Academy and complete your admission filings by Friday, Nov. 6, to meet Supreme Court deadlines. Program: Opens with Reception and Dinner on Sunday evening, with admission on Monday.

Access to free CLE programming: All registrants will receive access to the TBA’s extensive online CLE catalog and can register for 3 hours of programming at no charge.

Guests: Bring along a guest to share in the experience. The $225 guest fee covers attendance at the President's Welcome Reception and Dinner, breakfast at the Court and the Celebration Luncheon.

Sunday, December 13
6:00 – 7:00 p.m.  Welcome reception – Renaissance Mayflower Hotel
7:00 p.m. Dinner (Location to be determined)

Monday, December 14
7:30 a.m.       Meet in Mayflower hotel lobby
7:45 a.m. Depart in cabs for Supreme Court
8:00 a.m.   Arrive at the U.S. Supreme Court (Maryland Avenue entrance, go through security, proceed to breakfast in the Conference Room located in the Lawyers Lounge)
10:00 a.m. Court convenes with admissions
11:00 a.m.    Group picture on steps of Supreme Court to follow admissions
11:30 a.m. Lunch (Location to be determined)
1:00 p.m.   Tour of U.S. Supreme Court (Group meet at John Marshall statue)

Cancellation Policy
Because of the unique nature of the TBA Academy, cancellations for the admissions portion of the program can only be accepted if received by November 6, 2009. Cancellations for the meals and other events received up until 4 p.m., Central time three days prior to the program will receive a refund, less a $25 administrative fee, unless otherwise noted.
