35 graduate, one honored with service award at TBA convention

NASHVILLE, June 12, 2012 -- Thirty-five attorneys from across the state graduated from the Tennessee Bar Association's Leadership Law program during the association's annual convention in Memphis last week.

In addition, class member Curtis Bowe with Bowe & Associates PLLC in Chattanooga was named the first recipient of the Larry D. Wilks Leadership Award. Created to honor the former Springfield lawyer and TBA president who died this past August, the award recognizes a Leadership Law participant who exhibits "exceptional leadership qualities that enhance the Leadership Law experience for all class members." Wilks was instrumental in creating the program and served as its chair for a number of years. Bowe was selected by his fellow classmates and was presented the award at the class graduation dinner on June 8.

Now in its ninth year, Leadership Law is designed to equip Tennessee lawyers with the vision, knowledge and skills necessary to serve as leaders in their profession and local communities. A new class is selected each year and spends six months learning about leadership in the legal profession, issues in the courts, policymaking in state government and the importance of community service.
