It is my honor to serve as the Chair of the Construction Law Section of the TBA for the 2013-2014 year. On behalf of the Construction Law Section, welcome to the September 2013 Construction Law Section e-Newsletter.

If you are already a member of the TBA Construction Law Section, you know the benefits of being a member. If you are not, please consider this your personal invitation to join in the many benefits of section membership. We are hopeful of your increased participation with the Construction Law Section.

I am pleased to report that the Executive Council of the Construction Law Section has been meeting regularly, discussing and addressing the practical and legal issues facing construction law practitioners and those in the construction industry. We endeavor to meet the challenges that we as construction lawyers face in our daily practice. To that end, this section is currently working to improve the resources available on the Construction Law Section webpage for our members and construction law practitioners. We hope to assemble links to Tennessee and National governmental agencies such as the Board of Licensing Contractors, TN Department of Transportation, OSHA for the Construction Industry, among others, that can assist you in your practice. We welcome your input for any useful links to construction industry and legal resources that should be included on the Section’s web page.

Please visit the TBA Construction Law Section’s web page which also provides useful information about this Section. Go to the TBA’s website at www.tba.org, then click on “TBA Groups,” then “Sections,” then “Construction Law Section” (or just insert this URL in your browser: www.tba.org/section/construction-section.) You will find information about upcoming CLE programming, newsletters, information about the Section’s leadership, resources, and a listing of current Section members.

As we have done in years past, this Section will continue to monitor legislation affecting the construction industry and our construction law practice when the Legislature reconvenes in January 2014. It is our intention to keep our members informed about proposed legislation and solicit your input on matters that require our Section’s attention. On a personal note, I want to express a special thanks to Jerry Martin for agreeing to serve as our Section’s legislative liaison and working with the TBA this year. Jerry has served this Section with dedication and continues to do so, and I am grateful for his help again this year.

Finally, and most importantly, we are also pleased to announce that the Construction Law Section CLE program, “Anatomy of a Construction Dispute from A to Z,” is scheduled for January 24, 2014. A special thanks to Mary Beth Hogan and David Taylor who are planning and working to bring you this year’s program. Stayed tuned for detailed information about the Section’s upcoming program. SAVE THE DATE!

I look forward to working with all of you this year.

Best regards,
Beth Stengel, Chair
