First a huge thanks and congratulations and then a highlight of Section activities.   As a Section we owe a debt of gratitude to Lynn Pointer, the TBA Programs Director.  She has been instrumental to this Section for many years.  For those of you who haven’t heard, Lynn is retiring at the end of this Bar year in June.  She is the behind the scenes person who coordinates all of our activities and meetings.  She is a wealth of institutional knowledge about the Section which informs the ever-changing Board and provides continuity from year to year.  After a few years of practicing law I finally figured out how lawyers are able to be so prolific in their community and bar endeavors – they have tremendous people like Lynn working with them to make it possible.  Thank you, Lynn, for all your hard work for the Environmental Law Section and all you have done to make my service on the Executive Board the past four years so enjoyable.

This is a busy time of year for this Section.  The annual TDEC Solid Waste Conference (Environmental Show of the South) will be held at the end of the month and first of May in Gatlinburg which provides a full track of Environmental Law CLE.  A highlight of the Conference is the Reception with the Commissioner which will be on Thursday evening, May 1 and is a great opportunity for members across the State to gather.  Also, William McDonald "Mac" Plosser, a third-year student at the University of Memphis Cecil C. Humphreys School of Law, is the winner of the 2014 Jon E. Hastings Memorial Award Writing Competition.  See below for more information about Mac, the competition, and a link to his article.

Thank you for allowing me to serve as the Chair of this Section the past year.  I have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to further the interests of this Section and I look forward to continuing working with many of you in the future.

Best regards,

Catherine W. Anglin
