The Davidson County Election Commission officially set Aug. 2 as the date for the special mayoral election to replace Mayor Megan Barry, but a legal challenge is building against that decision, The Tennessean reports. Metro attorneys in favor of the August date cite the city’s charter, which says the election to replace a mayor must take place during the next general metropolitan election as long as there’s one less than 12 months away. But attorneys Jamie Hollin and Jim Roberts both contend that the August election is not a metropolitan election, and therefore believe that the charter holds for a special election in May of this year.
