Over 12,000 people in Arkansas have lost health insurance within the last three months because of the state’s new work requirement for Medicaid recipients, The Arkansas Times reports. The rule requires able-bodied adults under age 50 to report at least 80 hours of "work activities" each month or be kicked off the state’s Medicaid-funded insurance program Arkansas Works. Arkansas is the first state to instill the policy, though Kentucky tried a similar program that was blocked before going into effect by United States District Judge James E. Boasberg in June. A lawsuit challenging Arkansas's work requirement is now before the same judge.
