This month we are shining the spotlight on DLI class member Katie Reed!  Katie is a 2L, at LMU Law and aspires to practice criminal law, either as a prosecutor or a defense attorney.  You go girl!  Congrats to Katie for being our law student of the month.  Read on below to learn some interesting facts about Katie.
Why law school?
When I was in the third grade, my father was accused of an awful crime.  He was sent to prison for three years, before getting out on an appeal. I wanted to know about everything that was happening to my family throughout this time. I checked out a book on law from my school’s library over and over and over again- until the librarian gave it to me. It was then that I decided one day I would be a lawyer to help families like mine.
After graduating college, I have worked with victims of crime. They have changed my life in so many ways. They furthered my desire to go to law school.
What's the best gift you've ever received?
The best gift I have ever received was a Pandora leather bracelet by my then boyfriend- now husband. It is not necessarily the gift itself that made it the best, it was the amount of work he put into making sure I received it. Our first Valentine’s day together he was stationed in San Antonio, Texas with the United States Airforce. In order to make my Valentine’s day special he had a friend pick up the bracelet he ordered and deliver it to me with flowers and a card. The extra thought he put into making sure it all happen smoothly was most meaningful for me.
How do you relax?
Exercise is my favorite de-stressor. I love to spin and do circuit training. But if I truly want to relax I love to craft. I recently received a paper/vinyl cutter and I have found myself creating all kinds of stickers, shirts, and signs. But I also enjoy sewing, crocheting, and photography.
What is your favorite place in the world?
My favorite place in the world is Puerto Rico. I visited for the first time on a mission trip in high school. While there I fell in love with the rainforest, culture, and the people. Visiting now always brings joy to my heart.
What’s next on your bucket list?
I really want to take a trip to Disney World as an adult. I have not been since I was ten, and my husband has never gone. Maybe we will make it as a graduation trip.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Tags sticking out of clothing drives me crazy. It always has, and I am not really sure why. If your tag is sticking out and I am around I will be sure to tell you.
What fictional character do you most relate to? Why?
Elle Woods, as cliché as it is. Legally Blonde was my first glimpse of law school. To see the character of Elle be told she would never accomplish what she had wanted to do, and she do it anyway empowered me. Elle gave me the drive and hope throughout school to continue striving for the dream.
