A number of Wilson County residents are advocating for a reduced sentence for a man who nearly 20 years ago killed his one-year-old daughter, the Tennessean reports. Brian Kelley was convicted of first-degree murder in the case, but family and supporters say his actions were caused by a mental illness that led him to believe he was following God’s will in killing the child. They say that medication has kept his mental illness under control and his life sentence should be reduced.
