Two Knox County employees have filed a lawsuit maintaining that they were fired for drawing attention to an alleged misappropriation of taxpayer money, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports. David Ball and Teresa Ferguson filed the complaint in Knox County Chancery Court claiming that when they served as IT workers for the county, the pair noticed a co-worker was using a county credit card to purchase tech items and office furniture that the pair say Knox County Finance Director Chris Caldwell gave away for “political gain.” Ball and Ferguson, along with the IT department director, later confronted the employee who purchased the items and directly accused him of the alleged plot and were fired less than a year later. Defendants in the case declined to comment on the lawsuit.
